This brief conflict seems like a good case study for warfare late in the Twilight War. Generals ignoring orders from higher commands, militias and paramilitaries, ad-hoc and impromptu armored vehicles, etc.- it all reads like what I'd imagine warfare would look after the general nuclear exchanges of the late '90s (T2K). I really hadn't heard much about this conflict but the following article gives some colorful details.
http://s188567700.online.de/CMS/inde...=152&Itemid=47 I especially liked the description of some of the Russian "tanks" (uparmored MTLBs with ZU-23-2s mounted on the back and KAMAZ trucks with metal plates welded on the outside. Supposedly, one even mounted a pair of rocket launchers from a helicopter!) There's some neat pics there as well. In the past, we've talked a lot about how the wars in the former Yugoslavia might reflect warfare late in the Twilight War. Feel free to continue that discussion here. Better yet, if you have info about any of the other lesser-known wars in the former Soviet Bloc, please post it here.

Very interesting. I'd like to know more about organization of the various combatants, logistics, and so forth. What has been the tactical response of both parties to the lack of armor? How has "privatization" worked out on the Russian side of the Dnestr?
