USA Towed AAA?
ChalkLine 05-26-2004, 07:01 AM I'm looking for a website that details USA towed AAA, I need the weapons to be fairly modern although recently obsoleted is okay. Please note I'm not after missile/rocket weapons.
Does anyone know about a site like this? Does the USA use towed AAA anymore? Does the USA have non missile AAA anymore? Cheers, Jim ******************** pmulcahy 05-26-2004, 07:32 AM I don't know of a site, but according to Janes Land Based Air Defence 1997-98, the only towed AAA that the US is still using is the Vulcan, and they are slated to be replaced by the Pedestal-Mounted Stinger System (otherwise known as the Avenger, on a HMMWV chassis). I have game stats for a towed VADS on my site. (www.pmulcahy.com) ******************** graebarde 05-26-2004, 11:03 AM The only 'recent' towed AAA the US had that I know of is the Vulcan. The towed units were ususally in the light divisions (82nd and 101st for sure). There might still be some Quad-50s in store that appear. The NMANG was almost all ADA, and until the Avenger appeared were Duster (dual 40mm on a tank chassis) and quad-50. In the Nam, the Quads were used for base defense and mounted in trucks for convoy defense. For towing they were sucky as they had little wheels compared to regualar trailers IIRC. grae. ******************** |
