An Uncle of mine stationed in Berlin used to tell me stories of the tunnels under Templehof Airport. He said he used to explore them when off duty and later going down into them became a part of his dutys to look for people like himself down there exploring. Once joked he got down so deep he hit water, but was later told the lowermost levels had been flooded and contained a aircraft factory.

If I recall correctly, the German troops in the Tempelhof tunnels weren't surrendering quite fast enough, so the Soviets flooded the lowest levels.

Here are some photos of the Tempelhof tunnels: http://www.berlin-brigade.de/us-ins/tca-airbase3.php
