Sympathies go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of your lost man.
We may joke about our neighbor to the north sometimes, but you really are our closest ally (literally and figuratively) and an attack on you feels like an attack on us. |

Friend
I too have feelings that go out the Canadians. When things like that happen done here in the States, it seems like nothing, we've become numbed to the violence. I have a friend who lives in Ottawa and I am concerned for him today.

I was born in Canada and have relatives in three Canadian Provinces including Ontario and I'm worried about what's happening there. These fanatics are just appearing everywhere and what's worrying is that their not all from immigrant Islamic communities, the one that ran over the soldiers in Quebec was a white French-Canadian convert.

The Sergeant-at-Arms of the Canadian Parliament is a fair dinkum hero. I hope his friends and colleagues buy him many beers tonight.

Both me and my girlfriend were caught in the lock down of the downtown core. Not the best of day for a lot of people. I tip my hat to the first responders.

I was pleasently suprised that the internet is buzzing mostly about the the soldier who died rather than the killer.
Far too often the media has been focusing on the spree killers and simply giving them more fame and now at least the internet is trying to keep the focus on the victims. |

Sad news
Sorry to hear of the attack on your country and the loss of life.
I am glad to see in the media that the situation seems to have been handled so well and that further loss of life seems to have been averted. |

He died at his post. My condolences to his friends and family. Now what do we do about radical insane religious nutballs?

For those of you that were wondering, yes I was on duty at the CF military hospital in Ottawa when the attacks happened DND went into full lock down with the all clear given at 1800. Things are different in Ottawa now higher security on the hill and around government buildings. Additional security measures for those of us in uniform are that no Military Persons in Ottawa are permitted to wear their uniform outside their place of work, unless you are in your car. Stops in your car while in uniform are also prohibited.
I personally don't like this order, I always take pride in wearing my uniform, and think that at times, like this we need to demonstrate that we are not afraid and well not live in fear. Anyway thank for thoughts

May the fallen soldier get full honors and his family full condolances. May the Sgt. at Arms also be given honors. My sentiments about the Reactionary Muslims would get me kicked out of here. I also disagree with the uniform orders, it seems to take away from the Prime Minister's response.

Enough said. No soldier should have to hide.

I have to agree, being ordered to not wear your uniform is a bit of a disgrace. It shows cowardice on the part of those who gave the orders.

if you haven't seen it yet, go to www.nationalpost.com/m/wp/full-comment
There is a moving piece by Rex Murphy concerning the shooting and a awesome video of the Sergeant-at-Arms receiving a standing ovation by the Canadian Parliament.

We were iven the same order after the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby in Woolich. It was rescinded very quickly and we were told to wear it with pride.

Today (28 Oct) Corporal Nathan Cirillo of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada was laid to rest, he was the soilder killed at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent of the Royal Canadian Airforce who was was run down in a public parking lot in St-Jean Quebec will laid to rest on 2 Nov. Both will be given full military honours Rest in Peace But let me be clear: we will not hide. We will not be deterred nor intimidated from our duties. - General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff. Hmmmm I am not allowed to wear my uniform in public, so I will blend in with the civilian population, but I am not hiding
