Ot: Farc demobilization
I listened to an absolutely fascinating radio show on NPR about FARC in Colombia demobilizing.
Many of these guys and gals were 13- 15 when they joined and it's been 15 years.....never used a mobile phone, never had any conveniences. They were told they would be murdered or there families if they quit the movement. They talked to a woman who had been forced to have five abortions so she could continue to be a soldier. Very dark stuff....but also very very Twilight 2000!!! BIA |

I remember that kind of thing hitting home for me when my brother and I were talking about the kids that grew up in Lebanon in the '70s and '80s, when that country calmed down in the '90s. How screwed up are they in the head, not least from never having been to school?
