the US has been testing guidance systems for "precision nuclear weapons". the main selling points is that these would be smaller, more reliable, and more accurate. these upgrades(based on an older design) would have an interesting impact in something like the twilight war.

The B-61 Mod 12 is essentially a nuclear JDAM. Four yields, probably up to 340 KT. And it's (supposed to be) compatible with F-35. Though it also will likely arm the B-2 and the LRSB (Long Range Strike Bomber) or B-3.

But would it? Remember the start of the Twilight war was nearly 20 years ago IRL. Virtually all R&D in the T2K timeline would have ceased 18 years ago.

For a later start, like say the 2013 version, yeah it could have some impact (no pun intended) so yeah, I can see they would have some use in a T2k-like setting but definitely not the original Twilight in either 1st or 2nd Ed. settings.

well given that the JDAM kit was in production by 1998, and that this is basicly just mounting that kit onto an atom bomb it could enter into a game. that said it would be better not to shoehorn this into those timelines. with a Mercs or TW2013 timeline, however, it could make for some interesting scenarios. especially in Mercs, i could see a "Mr Johnson" in a cheap suit and a bad haircut hiring a team to go recover one that has fallen into the wrong hands...
