Question Twilight 2000 Font

Serious question: Does anyone know for certain what font/typeface is used in the original, Twilight 2000 v1.0 adventure modules? If so, I'd really like to hear from you.

You might find something very close here. http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=502
Though honestly, the font on this forum is pretty close.

I used Times New Roman 11 as my font and font size with larger settings for sections and important titles - but not sure what the actual one was that they used for the modules in the 80's - I noticed that some of them have different font settings than others

Look at Allegheny Uprising versus Howling Wilderness for instance - they have a different type setting or sure look like it to me

FYI sending a letter to Frank and Marc to see if they remember

Raellus - just got this from Marc - hope this helps

"Attached is an example of page and format.

This is two column, Helvetica or Univers, conceivably Arial.
I think 10 point, leaded 11."

and this was what was attached - FYI this was from Marc Miller and he was ok with me sharing that page here as an example of the font

I believe those examples are after OCR has been applied.

I only have one pdf in my collection which is not OCR'ed. It is an old copy of small arms guide I found on my backup drives.

I have attached a screen shot of what I think is the original font.

I have run it through multiple online resources to identify fonts and have not found an exact one. The key points I noticed on the font were the shape and width of the lower case "e" and "a" the curvature of the bottom of the "9" and spacing after the "1".

Texta Narrow came the closest (after adjusting the boldness) but the the 1 is still wrong.
I agree with you there Kato - the font that Marc is quoting is probably not the original font but as you said after OCR was applied - I used the one I did trying to get my spacing and size of letters as close as I could to the original that I have (i.e. for instance the RDF Sourcebook which I used as a guide as how a Sourcebook should look) but using a more modern font

Pulling from the PDF into Word, it tells me that...
  • Margins are .75 in to either side
  • 2-Column, with .25-in separation
  • The font is Arial
  • body font size = 8.5 pt
  • The Going Home head = 15 pt (I dubbed it heading 2)
  • The INTRODUCTION font is also Ariel 8.5, Bold, all caps (I dubbed it Heading 3)
  • Paragraphs are indented .15-in, no spacing above or below. (style = Normal).

The attached page is a close approximation of the PDF, including header (page number to outside on odd and even pages); I added the footer to show the Head 2 style.

I would suggest 4 pts after each paragraph, for easier reading. I would also suggest that Ariel 10 pt is quite small enough to read...

Yes, the original does not have a bulleted list after "This booklet contains..." - but it should.

Feel free to use this file as a Style Guide. I will try to look at one of the originals to see what other styles can be added.

The other point is that as long as you are consistent, Loren can easily change it as he sees fit.
