Gunsmith Question
I have a player in my campaign who was wondering if it's possible to modify a
TDI Kriss Super V SMG to use a more penetrating round than .45 APC http://thebigbookofwar.50megs.com/DO...achine%20Guns/ (scroll down on the link above) I was thinking if it was possible to use the PAB-9 AP subsonic ammo (9x39mm) http://thebigbookofwar.50megs.com/DO...pecial%20Guns/ - check out the VSK-94 U must offcourse change the whole barrel - and a lot more perhaps .... any ideas?

Short answer - EXTREMELY unlikely. The weapon appears to be designed specifically for pistol ammo and the very complexity of the weapon (it's still in development isn't it?) means you're going to have to do a lot more than change barrels and mags.
Given a few years, a few tens of thousands of dollars, and a decent design team, maybe, but for a single person in their backyard shed? And what's wrong with .45 ACP for the short ranged stuff anyway? It might not have the power and range of a rifle round, but the weapon isn't designed to be much more than a PDW from what I can see. |

It looks to me like the player just wants "more of everything". I guess it can be done, but there is no way to validate the concept. Here is a little info about the VSK-94: "The VSK-94 was designed to accurately engage unarmored point targets at ranges up to 400 m"
The whole novel recoil system would have to be redesigned with different weights, buffers and springs. I guess you'd have to have several guns to work with. How about just having special .45 ACP ammo made? Refit the gun with a stronger barrel, chamber and springs, and have stronger cartridges made to fire +++ rounds? Cheaper, easier, and more feasible. On the other hand, it says on the document that the system could be accommodated to fit other calibers like 9mm Luger. It probably already exists. http://www.kriss-tdi.com/products/te...-overview.html

TDI (or another large company willing to spend the time and money) might be able to do it, but the average backyard gunsmith?
A bit unlikely I'd think... |

Most of the bad gunsmithing I've seen has been deliberate rather than accidental. "What did that rifle ever do to you?"

Then time is probably the bigger contributor. A firearm design doesn't just happen, they take a significant amount of time and energy to develop. Even a modification of an existing design isn't going to happen overnight unless the PCs want an unreliable, or even dangerous (to the user) weapon.

and as the player...
that wants more of everything wink wink nood nood, u now what i mean...
this wasn`t actually my idea to change the weapon, but i tok it as a great idea... but as one here said, it is for close combat, so i would rather have it the way it is as of now, but maybe but some more powerfull ammo in to it. as i understand this text(first link), the ammo here should do the trick against 1mm galvanised steel leaving the sabot at the beginning of 22 layers of kevlar II, while the penetrator goes through.... take away the steel (as in the test), adding some more grain/powder (you know, the thing that makes it go boom!) could it then maybe go through a Type III west? i guess this bullet-type will be my choice, instead of using to much money and time to upgrade the weapon? http://www.fsdip.com/website/VBRBelg...4/Default.aspx another site of interest: http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/armory-central/
