M1 AGDS (Moved from archive)
shrike6 10-19-2003, 05:14 PM I was wondering if anyone had came up with game stats for the M1 AGDS? It was a proposed air defense variant of the Abrams Tank back in the 1990s.
******************** pmulcahy 10-19-2003, 10:02 PM Which one do you mean? The gun-armed one (similar to the DIANA in the American Combat Vehicle Handbook), or the ADATS-armed one? If it's the ADATS-armed one I think I have a drawing somewhere, but I've never seen any stats. I might be able to mock one up, but it wouldn't be more than an pile of guesses. ******************** shrike6 10-20-2003, 05:19 AM It's the ADATS one. I have an article on it. If you want I can email it to ya. ******************** James1978 10-20-2003, 02:59 PM I'm not sure if this is the one you're talking about, but it's an interesting picture. http://www.jed.simonides.org/tanks/a...rty-intro.html ******************** jester770 10-20-2003, 03:09 PM Do you mean the Sgt. York system? It was a twin 40mm Boffors system in an open auto turret atop a tank chasis. It was developed by a join venture of Ford and some one else. The system attempted to use existing technology. They attempted to us an air to air radar or was it air to ground radar from a apache or cobra as the targeting system, they had it backwards since the ssystem they used went from a clear to cluttered area and the anti air system was going from cluttered to clear. They needed to do a new program. Hence the system failed and the program was dropped. ******************** shrike6 10-20-2003, 07:39 PM Originally posted by James1978 I'm not sure if this is the one you're talking about, but it's an interesting picture. http://www.jed.simonides.org/tanks/a...rty-intro.html Similar but different, It does have twin 35mm guns and has 2 six-round SAM launcher but the guns are in the middle of the turret and the launchers are retractable. It was a proposed version of the Abrams but never made the prototype stage Originally posted by jester770 Do you mean the Sgt. York system? No, The DIVAD was based off the M48A5 Tank Chassis. ******************** |
