My next part I am working on as a quick side mission story line.



4th Recon Platoon, 1st Recon Company, 511th MI Battalion, 11th ACR

As the 11th ACR was organizing its departure from Bremerhaven under OPORD OMEGA, Colonel Starks was introduced to Captain INSERT PLOT LINE TOON HERE of the Sao Sebastian, a merchant ship that was docked in Bremerhaven looking for work. After speaking with the captain and seeing how much of the world has changed since the start of the war, Starks determined that this might be a good opportunity to get some “eyes” on the rest of the world and see if every place else is as screwed as Germany was after the war.

Starks arranged to have the 4th Recon platoon board the Sao Sebastian and report to the captain for assignment, he had offered the 4th as a security detail. They were well trained, well armed and well motivated considering life on the Sao Sebastian was going to be much better then most would expect from the cramped conditions aboard one of the TF 34 vessels.

The Sao Sebastian stopped at a few ports in Europe looking for cargo, anything it could move at the next port for a profit. Starks had given the Captain some salvaged electronics to help cover any expenses the 4th might cause. The Captain turned them over in a small port in France for some mechanical pumps, parts and various valves and such that were originally destined for a port no longer in existence in the Middle East. The Captain knew the parts would fetch a good price in Southern Texas, his contacts there had been looking for just this sort of salvage and would pay well for it.

Once the Sao Sebastian docked in Port Lavaca Texas, the 4th was given a few days R&R as the cargo they delivered was paying for some much needed repairs on the Sao Sebastian. Quickly the 4th was recruited by a local rancher Kingsly for a “discrete opportunity”. Figuring they had time before the Sao Sebastian would be ready to head back out and that Starks had directed them to collect as much data about the places they stop, the 4th accepted the contract. Little did they know how non “discrete” this mission would become.

Initially the mission was just to locate the ranchers’ kidnapped family, free them from their current “confines” and return them to the rancher unharmed. The 4th was more then any local rancher or even Mexican defectors could handle alone, seemed easy enough. Then a band of the “La Familia”, some 600 members came to the party as it turned out they were behind the kidnapping and were trying to restore an oil refinery in Port Isabel Texas.

As the whole plan became apparent, and the potential it holds, was clear, the 4th contacted Colonel Starks to advise him of the current situation. After a brief conversation, Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd BCT was sent to assist the 4th recon with the situation, establish a FOB there and secure the refinery as well as any equipment or personnel needed to see the plan through.

It turned out the situation surrounding the refinery was getting even more interesting as an entire Soviet division, “Division Cuba”, had some interest in a working oil well, go figure. Once the division found out where this refinery was, they sent a detachment to try and secure the facility, or if not that, at least a few thousand liters of oil.

Although the 4th Recon did everything it could to secure the facility from the Soviet advance, there just wasn’t a lot a platoon could do to hold off an armored column of BTR’s. The column entered Port Isabel where the 4th Recon engaged in “hit and run” activity to try and slow the column down, delivering substantial damage to the column in the process. However it wasn’t enough to completely stop them either, they were on the door step of the perimeter the 4th Recon platoon setup to try and hold the position, they dug in an prepared for the worse.

Then a crackle over the sat-com, and then another. As the Soviet column entered the perimeter defenses of the 4th, a TOW missile slams into the lead BTR-70, knocking it off the road and flipping it around like a rag doll. And then a 2nd missile flies by the 4th’s PL and hits a UAZ-469 completely wrecking the vehicle and stopping it in its tracks. The forward units of Alpha Company, who had secured a tug boat in Port Lavaca earlier that day, pulled around the end of the dock and was able to get two missiles off before landing to assist the 4th.

The sight of their lead vehicle being taken out by what was thought to be a vastly out numbered opponent, and then to see an “amphibious assault by the Marines” landing behind them caused the column to withdraw, leaving a fair amount of equipment and vehicles behind in the panic. The column had been overrun and was heading back to San Antonio at full speed.

Once the area was secured, Alpha company gave Colonel Starks a situation report on the successful defense of the facility and the overall situation regarding the refinery and oil rig. Starks ordered a Forward Operating Base be established to assist with securing the Port as well as the rig itself.

In addition, shipping should be located, repaired and manned to assist with the movement of both oil products back to the 11th ACR and the continued operation of the oil production capabilities.

A source of oil production like the refinery at Port Isabela would be just the catalyst needed for Colonel Starks to see the true potential of the idea rattling around in his head. A free independent city-state some where on the East Coast, a beacon of what could be again for the United States of America.
