The State of Israel in Twilight

Personnel: 6,000 active (including 500 naval commandos) and 500 Reserves.

Naval Aviation: 5 IAI-Westwind 1124 Sea Scan maritime patrol aircraft; 2 ex USCG SA-365G (HH-65A Dolphin prototypes), (another 12-20 are on order from France).

0 + 2 Dolphin-class Diesel-Electric Submarines (German Type 209/1500)
Displacement of 1,200/1,550 tons. Speed of 13/22.5kts. Crew of 36. Armament consists of eight 533mm torpedo tubes. Not slatted to enter service until 1997, plans to purchase an additional 2-4 units in the 1998-2002 time frame.

3 German Type 206/500 Diesel-Electric Submarines
72 Gal; 74 Tanin; 76 Rahav
Displacement of 420/600 tons. Speed of 10/17kts. Crew of 22. Armament consists of eight 533mm torpedo tubes.

1 + 2 + 1 Sa’ar V-class Guided Missile Corvettes

Displacement of 1,162 tons. Speed of 33kts. Crew of 74. Armament consists of two quad Harpoon launchers, eight single Gabriel IV SSM launchers, two 32-cell Barak CVLS SAM launchers, one Mk75 76mm, two single 25mm GE Sea Vulcan CIWS, two triple 324mm ASW torpedo tubes, 1 SA-365G helo. Will also carry the Israeli built Helstar helicopter reconnaissance drone.

1 Nirit-class Guided Missile Patrol Boat

Displacement of 488 tons. Speed of 32kts. Crew of 50. Armament consists of two twin Harpoon launchers, six single Gabriel III SSM launchers, four eight-cell Barak VLS SAM launchers, one single 76mm OTO Melara Compact, one Mk15 Phalanx CIWS, two single 20mm, four single 12.7mm HMGs. Third unit of the Romat-class, modified as the seagoing trails ship for the Barak SAM launchers.

2 Romat-class Guided Missile Patrol Boats

Displacement of 488 tons. Speed of 31kts. Crew of 50. Armament consists of two quad Harpoon launchers, six single Gariel III SSM launchers, one single 76mm OTO Melara Compact, one Mk15 Phalanx CIWS, two single 20mm, four single 12.7mm HMGs. Lengthend Aliyah-class hull with additional armamnet instead of the helicopter facility.

2 Aliyah-class (Sa’ar 4.5)-class Guided Missile Patrol Boats

Displacement of 500 tons. Speed of 31kts. Crew of 53. Armament consists of two twin Harpoon launchers, four single Gabriel III launchers, one Mk15 Phalanx, two single 20mm, four single 12.7mm HMGs, one SA-365G. The helo is used to provide over-the-horizon targeting capacity for the Harpoon missiles. One Aliyah-class acts as flagship for group of missile boats.

8 Reshev (Sa’ar IV)-class Guided Missile Patrol Boats
Reshev; Kidon; Tarshish; Yafo; Nitzahon; Atzmaut; Moledet; Komemiyut
Displacement of 450 tons.
Speed of 32kts. Crew of 45. Armament consists of two twin Harpoon launchers, six to eight single Gabriel III launchers, one single 76mm OTO Melara Compact, one Mk15 Phalanx CIWS, two single 20mm, four single 12.7mm HMGs. In service with South Africa and Chile.

Displacement of 250 tons. Speed of 40kts. Crew of 40. Armament consists of two single Harppon launchers, one triple Gabriel launcher, one single 76mm OTO Melara Compace, four single 12.7mm HMGs.

6 Sa’ar II-class Guided Missile Patrol Boats
Mivtach; Miznag; Misgav; Eilath; Haifa; Akko
Displacement of 250 tons. Speed of 40kts. Crew of 35. Armament consists of one triple and two single Gabriel launchers, one single 40mm , two single 12.7mm HMGs, one triple 324mm ASW torpedo tube.

2 Grumman Mk II/M 161-class Guided Missile Hydrofoils
Shimrit; Livnit
Displacement of 103.5 tons. Speed of 45kts. Crew of 15. Armament consists of two twin Harpoon launchers, two single Gabriel launchers, one twin 30mm gun, two single 12.7mm HMGs. Original plans for 15, reduced to 2 due to design issues.

1 Shaldag-class Patrol Boat
Shaldag
Displacement of 56 tons. Speed of 50kts. Crew of 8. Armament consists of two single 20mm, two single 12.7mm HMGs. Builder-funded design not purchased by the Israeli Navy. Offered to the USN, who were not interested.

9 Super Dvora-class Patrol Boats
Displacement of 48 tons. Speed of 36kts. Crew of 9. Armament consists of two single 20mm, two single 12.7mm HMGs.

1 Dvora-class Patrol Boat
Displacement of 47 tons. Speed of 36kts. Crew of 10. Armament consists of two 20mm and 2 12.7mm HMGs. Builder-funded prototype, can also carry two single Gabriel launchers. Has been exported to Nicaragua, Argentina and Chile. License built in Taiwan.

31 Dabur-class Patrol Boats
Displacement of 25 tons. Speed of 25kts. Crew of 6. Armament consists of two single 20mm and two single 12.7mm HMGs.

16 Yatush-class patrol Boats
Displacement of 8.9 tons. Speed of 25kts. Crew of 5. Armament consists of two single 7.62mm GPMGs.

1 Bat Sheva Landing Craft
Bat Sheva
Displacement of 1,150 tons. Speed of 10kts. Crew of 26. Armament consists of four single 20mm, four single 12.7mm HMGs. Can carry up to 200 troops.

3 Ashod-class Tank Landing Craft
Ashod, Ashkelon; Ahziv
Displacement of 730 tons. Speed of 10.5kts. Crew of 20. Armament consists of two single 20mm AA guns. Can carry up to 85 troops.
