Eureka Taxes and Feudalism

Well guys it seems we sill have to pay taxes to stay in Eureka....

Why?

My question is simple -

How can people pay taxes when u basically don't get anything in return?

Are we going back to the Feudalistic Middle Ages ?

Are comments like:
"Who's he?"
"Must be a king?"
"Why?"
"He haven't got Shit all over him"

going to be commonplace?
