Soviet Naming Conventions
This question came up on the Free League T2k forum but no satisfactory answers have been tendered as of yet. We have a very knowledgeable group here so I'm hoping that one of you knows the answer. What did the Soviet military call NATO AFVs and aircraft during the Cold War?
NATO had code names for Soviet aircraft, missile systems, and submarines (e.g. Hind, Fulcrum, Grumble, Sagger, Alpha, etc.). Did the Soviets use a similar system for NATO gear (i.e. making up their own code names), or did they just use the NATO designations (e.g. calling a Leopard II a Leopard II), or some other system entirely? -
