Trade
First let me tell you that I was taught to blacksmith (general smithing) by my Grandfather and was left his tools. My Anvil is a British made Peter wright made in 1849. Second, I was involved in the American fur trade reenactments for a number of years. I made a living as a maker of historical copies in pewter and silver and as a trader at the reenactments.
I think that ANY trade such as the smithing would be of value, of course depending on location and need.
I however raised my kids and now grandkids with the underling fact that you must be able to sell. First, yerself, then trade or sell a product.
Two cents from an old man.
