Default Gyrojet firearm

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on these weapons?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrojet

They have come up in another RPG I play, Vampire - as conventional ballistics are not so effective against them. Just thought I would give them an airing here.

Default gyrojet weapons

has some advantages - but some disadvantages that are hard to circumvent.

For instance - the projectile accelerates from you pull the trigger ,but the first few meters the round is mostly harmless

close range and point blank not effective.A vietnam vet wrote that his pistol could be safely fired into the palm of his hand .

on the other hand , the weapons are lighter and have little recoil.

the ammunition can be very potent at optimum ranges.

I would think they also have a slower rate of fire than a normal firearm.

I know that a few SOG recon teams were issued Gyrojet pistols during the Vietnam war. They may even have been used in combat once or twice. I have a book at home with much more info on the combat history of the Gyrojet so I'll get back to you if I find out anything particularly interesting.

Oh come on now, you didn't think I'd have that on my site?

It's down the page under MBA Gyrojet. Researched, as usual, from several sources.

My guess is that in T2K lack of ammo would render it no more than a curiosity.

It is now, in fact.
