Proposed Team Loads
Or... "THE MOTHERSHIP CONCEPT"
I believe that all teams (and especially Recon teams) have a primary task to COLLECT information and CONVEY information. This could range from geological surveys to briefing a Regional HQ to addressing a Town Hall meeting. Without that flow of information, Reconstruction will be impossible. Therefore, for most of their duties, the individuals need carry only enough firepower for personal defense. If they need more weapons, they can get them from their team vehicle or "mothership" which acts as a mobile arms room. What the individual team members have in the way of weaponry 1. Pistol (concealable and always carried) PLUS 2 MAGS OR SPEEDLOADERS 2. Carbine (the Stoner M23, if you use canon) PLUS 6 MAGS 3. collapsible baton (concealable and always carried) (Remember, additional ammunition, grenades and heavy/specialist weapons like LAWS are carried on the vehicle and assigned as necessary) Individual "gear" Basic Load (as canon) plus
TEAM LOAD note: all this is carried on the team vehicle ("mothership") Vehicle Supplies (AS CANON, PAGE 32) Plus:
comfort gear:
observation/surveillance/communication gear:
Stationery

Matt,
This is pretty good, I like the added equipment to expand team capability and field sustainability. I'd suggest sticking with the ordinary loads for Recon teams; there are situations where a rifle, SMG or support weapon is going to be more useful than a carbine. As long as some thought is put into load selection and there is a range of weaponry for defence that should be sufficient. Tony |

I went with standard armament to ease ammunition and training purposes. My idea, however, is for a more permanent base than a bolthole. It's going to be the center of the team's operations and so has a bit more capacity as an armoury. I also have my freeze date as 2007. But, for a 6 person team, I decided on...
(12) XM-8 (HK G36 variant) (5.56mm) ----http://world.guns.ru/assault/as61-e.htm ----I like that the project was scrapped which makes it plausible for MP to ----have purchased lots of them. (6) HK UMP submachineguns (.40)(also one in each vehicle) (6) S&W M/P Handguns (.40) (2) SAW (5.56mm) (2) USAS-12 Shotguns (2) Hunting Rifles (2) Period rifles (hunting or shotgun, manufactured to look rough) (1) AM Sniper (.50) Other sniper rifles as issued to qualified team members. But I don't like the varied load-out options because it would seem more likely that uniformity in ammunition types would be the rule of the day. |

Looking at your list, it would seem that the canon loads (for most teams) would have about the same degree of ammunition commonality, more or less. I.e.: most loads from TM 1-1 use 5.56x45mm, 7.62x51mm and 9x19mm, with 12 ga. .357 and .44 Magnum available but could be restricted to special purpose teams. The above list includes 5.56x45mm, .40 S&W, 12 ga. .50 AM, "hunting rifles" and "period rifles" which are probably going to be in a mis-mash of calibres from possibly .22LR to .30-30, .308 (7.62x51mm), .30-06. So at best commonality is about the same as TM 1-1. I see there appears to be 27 different long-arms and SMGs/shotguns provided for a 6-person team, including 2 SAWs and 1 anti-material rifle (a sniper rifle on steroids). Wouldn't this make things a little cramped in the MPV? Sorry if this sounds a little critical, that's not my intent. Tony |
