Default Skype, or something similar?

Has anyone thought of doing a "face to face" over a webcam/audio chat program like Skype?

I've used Skype for geographically distributed gaming before - audio and text chat, no video. So long as the user hosting the conference has a stable net connection, it works pretty well. We fell into using the voice channel for primary gameplay and the text windows for private messages ("passing notes to the GM") and side-chatter that otherwise would have derailed play. Also, a lot of the numeric stuff went to the chat window, which gave us a rolling record of every PC's status and actions.

Eric,

I've played in a long-running Morrow Project game via Skype with some mainly American friends (including for a time Lee in the UK despite the time difference, what a trooper!). It seems to work well, you can transfer files easily like maps, there are private chat windows as well as a group window you set up.

We had some bandwidth problems that eventually got sorted out. For a while we also tried different RPG clients like d20 Pro and iTabletop with so-so (or less) success. So for the mean time, Skype it is.

Well, I am all for being a player. GM'ing I have yet to master. I can write, and tell stories, develop story lines, scenarios, and describe the world and its inhabitants just fine. The issue for me is that I have never been able to play the rules successfully in a face to face or similar environment. So I would not be a good person to GM the game.

If anyone wants to work something out this weekend and run a session or two on Skype, I am all for it. I am going to be cooped up in the house all weekend. It's too cold to muck about outside, and I am saving money for when I head home for Christmas next weekend.

If anyone would like to play on Oovoo, or Skype...let's get this going.

My Skype handle is Borganheimer.
