Warsaw Pact Small Arms Guide
The latest thing I have to share is a bit more substantial than I have done previously, it is a guide to small arms used by the Warsaw Pact (plus Finland and Yugoslavia). As ever comments are welcome.

Not bad for a simplified Warsaw pac small arms list. I can think of a list of weapons you don't cover but that's currently besides the point. Right now your list is very good for what you have covered.

Good work, James, though I'd add the Rk95TP (the model 95 folding stock) in to the entry on the finnish weapons as well as the Finnish model 62 LMG, since it would have been in use as a SAW in majority of units during Twilight War. And let's not forget the model 85 sniper rifle, built on a custom stock and free-floating bull-barrel from the actions of Mosin-Nagant -type rifles.
Anyway, very good piece of work. Thumbs up.

I didn't see the Groza or the Vintorez. Other than those it's got a good coverage. The photos didn't come out too well for me.

I know photos are poor, unfortunately the size limit on files really hits large documents. Will look at Groza and Vintorez.

Great read, James!
Are you going to add shotguns (Saiga!)? You've mentioned at least one Yugoslawian rifle (M48). I know, that Zastawa had build several weapons, chambered for NATO calibres. Do you want to cover these, too? And, last thing: On the backcover it reads: "Note to mention ..." I'm not sure. Is that right or a misspelling? Regards B.T.

An excellent piece of work. I particularly liked the way its been written as an historical document after the war.
The pictures don't come out well for me either. |

Versoin 2.2.4
Updated version, with special thanks to Thomas for all the extra info. I appreciate the pictures are so low res as to be next to useless but this is due to the size limit of files. I am working on a solution.

Quick question about this guide. I'm searching through and I noticed some reliability rules as well as some strange adjustments to the Wz88 Tantal with no explanations on what either of those mean. This is otherwise an outstanding product, so finding such an oddly large oversight is puzzling.
Update: Found them. I had to go forum hunting and found them on James' posts about 6 pages through his archive. Last edited by PzAz04TotenMaus; 05-20-2016 at 12:43 PM. |

Nice work.
Here are some of the weapons developed before or in the 90's that you missed. They mostly made it into general military service in the early 21st Century but would be available in the Twilight2000 time frame. Bison SMG in 9mm Makarov. circa 1996 Vityaz-SN circa 1993 KS-23 Shotgun introduction unknown Kord 12.7mm X 108mm HMG introduction unknown PSM Pistol 5.45mm X 18mm introduction unknown MP-443 Grach ("Rook")/Yarygin PyA 9mmP circa 1993 replaced CZ75 with Spetznaz. Official Adoption for general use in 2003. This could have been earlier in the Twilight2000 timeline. |

KS-23 Shotgun
The info from Modern Firearms suggests an introduction date for the military police and for MVD troops of the mid-1980s. I know it's been mentioned before on the forum but the Modern Firearms site is really quite good for info on Soviet weapons as the site owner is Russian and a Russian Army reservist officer (if I remember correctly). http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/rus/ks-23-e.html |
