Default July 18th, 2000

It's the date that started it all, sending you on a wild adventure of survival. I was thinking about running a one-shot event that followed a motley crew of soldiers from the 5th trying to survive the events of the fateful day that destroyed the division as an effective fighting force.

A v1 romp straight from the box set. I created six 'scenes', one scene per period, covering the whole day, and ending in a (potentially) explosive finale.

I was thinking about running it with Google/Skype, because I have a program that records Skype calls so 'future generations' could enjoy listening to us

I would pre-generate PCs for the players to pick from at the start of the session. And since it would make sense, I figured I'd run it on the 18th (A Thursday), probably from 8-10 or 11PM EST (GMT-4 I believe).

I would've waited until next year (the 30th Anniversary of v1), but I wanted to get some T2k in now!

So, would anyone be interested in trying to survive the Death of a Division?

And of course, happy 4th of July!

You intrigue me, sir. I've never tried to play on Google, so I'd need a little tech training.

Google Hangouts is pretty slick when it comes to gaming. You have the option of video/audio chat (I've used both, but audio is less intensive on the computer), and you can have maps/docs/links shared pretty easily.

Heck, if you're at work and want to be really 'discrete' (ie. can't be talking out loud for obvious reasons), I've also just recently tried gaming with Mibbet, which is just a simple web IRC chat platform. Can't do die rolls (sadly), but you can set up nicknames (Player names) and have separate chat threads (OCC, IC, etc.)

You can set up a channel and people can join in.

I can bring my own computer with me and I work alone.... so it CAN be done, but the danger is that if something happens I may have to leave.

That's when your character makes the heroic sacrifice the other player's figured you'd agree on.

I'm not a fan of skype/video gaming, but I'm in MA myself, and might be up for some ftf gaming

I once ran a similar scenario ftf with new players who didn't know what happened to the 5th. I had them acting as platoon and squad commanders for the week leading up to the final battle. The look on their faces as NPCs they had come to know (we had played a number of sessions) died in vast numbers was a picture!

So I bought the Stage I rules for T2013 the other day (I'm cheap, it was $5, what are you gonna do?), and I like it.

How would the interested parties feel about putting Reflex through the paces? I can admit that I don't have any experience with it, but hey, Stage I is pretty simple, and this is the perfect learning experience for all of us.

Reflex should allow us for some quick 'n brutal firefights, which pretty much fits into the loose story I was writing for the one-shot. Not having the core rulebook I will certainly have to fudge some things, but this is one night, what can go wrong?

Thoughts? Comments?

To the (brave) few that were interested, can you shoot a PM my way? Then I can share all the information needed to connect to the game.

Sadly, I am going to bail out.

If you would be running the game somewhere like RPol, I'd be up for it. Can't really do VoIP or skype and irc would require too much time for now. Got some experience on the Reflex-system too.

That might not be much of a problem, as RL is flexing its muscles for me currently. I'm switching gears at work, and spending my mornings volunteering at a summer day camp (kids have more energy than I ever did). I'm exhausted by quittin' time.

I might hold things in reserve and let them slowly build up for next year, the 30th anniversary of v1 T2k!

@Medic: I've been battling with myself over running a T2k game on RPOL ever since I got an account. Maybe I just need to buck-up and go in!

If you don't mind running it on TW:2013, I'd be thrilled. Been wanting to play it by myself instead of trying to get a campaign running.

I much prefer face to face, but if a T;2k13 game is starting on RPOL, I'd be happy to give it a whirl
