Poor guy. Then again, if the natives "down under" are telling you to avoid going near the water, it's likely there's a DAMN good reason for it....

The part of the Mary River where the guy was taken has some of the highest population densities of salt water crocodiles in Australia. The one that took him has been described as being about 5m (nearly 17 feet long). The victim was an idiot. Given that he obviously won't be breeding, it's natural selection operating just as it should.

Reminds me of a conversation in my all-time favorite movie:

Newt: My mommy always said there were no monsters - no real ones - but there are.
Ripley: Yes, there are, aren't there?
Newt: Why do they tell little kids that?
Ripley: Most of the time it's true.

If I read the news accounts correctly, there was alcohol involved.

The conversation probably went something like this.....

"Hold my beer, mate. Watch this...." CHOMP

Mate, if it's outdoor recreational activity in the Northern Territory, it involves alcohol. Up there they have the highest alcohol consumption rates in the entire country.

I'm pretty disappointed the authorities killed 4 big crocs during the search for the guy's body. None of the crocodiles did anything wrong.

That's what puzzles me. Why punish the crocs for having their daily protein intake?

You can't have your pudding if you don't eat your meat.

That actually ranks right up there with "Hey dude, watch this s**t!" and "I'm a Lieutenant, trust me!"
