Post Apoc Reading
So what Post-Apoc reading is on your shelf?
At the moment I have a Canticle for Liebowitz, which has been highly recommended. What are you reading? |

You should read "Alas Babylon" for one option on how a community restarts itself.
Then "Warday" for post attack scenarios, FEMA action, and general mayhem or mismanagement. |

I had Alas Babylon a while ago, but put it down and never picked it up again. Maybe I should go back. I just leafed through parts of WarDay and thought it was quite interesting.
Problem for our game is that a lot of post-apoc is fairly recent after the apocalpytic event. The long wait of 150 years makes this game different. What I liked about the The Earth Abides, is how quickly society begins to slip. |

You could try........... The Postman by David Brin........ Personally this is an instance where the movie was better than the book in my opinion.

You know, I think the movie got hammered, but I also agree, the book was not nearly as good as the book. Too much goofy stuff going on in the book that moves it away from the central character and teh idea of community rebuilding.

There is also On the Beach, World War Z, Lucifer's Hammer, One Second After, The Road and The Stand.
That should keep you going for a while. My $0.02 Mike |

We might as well include post-apoc movies into the mix too. Two that jump to my mind are A Boy and his Dog, based on the Ellison story, and one of my favorites- The Blood of Heroes (or team sports in the post-apoc). One of the recurring themes is the use of underground shelters and vaults and how their existence mixes with the surface world and how societies or civilization changes. |
