I apologize, I really don't know where this thread starts, but it's Called "ABLE ARCHER '83", and it is an absolutely gripping read on a potential WWIII in 1984 scenario:

If you've never played the Wargame series of PC games I highly recommend them. The second of the series, Wargame: Airland Battle has a full campaign based on able archer being the flashpoint of WWIII.
Later there is even a campaign that is very Twilight-esque where limited nuclear exchange has occurred and you command a hodge-podge regiment of warsaw pact survivors determined to start a new state. Heres a teaser of able archer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h81tbO6M7jE
