What time period do you set your games in?
I love cold war gone hot novels set in the 80's. Books like Chieftains, Team Yankee, Red Storm Rising and General Hacket's World War 3.
As a result I use a variant of the original 1st edition timeline but with everything going off in the 80's. The setting has evolved over the years and with the release of the Team Yankee tabletop game my group has linked in bigger battles, scenarios and one offs with that in campaigns. I'm curious what time period other folks set thier games in? |

For 90% of my T2K lifetime, i've set my timeline by V1.0. I may have used other rule sets, mainly 2.2. But always 1.0 timeline. Call me old fashioned.
This year my interest has really peaked again in playing T2K. I bought the FL4.0 rule and am surprised by how much i like it. I haven't read their timeline yet, and to be honest i have no interest. I find the whole discussion re timeline details boring. At the end of the day, I'm only interested in high level "mood". For instance timeline 2.0 is in effect is OK by me. Just don't engage with me re where unit 69 ended up and why in v 2.0 v 2.1. Because in my mind, once boots hit the ground, that level of detail matters for nought. The remaining 10% of my time is what i am doing now, I am currently running a PC through modern day Ukraine. No bad taste intended, it just coincided with me using 4.0 rules and gave me a setting that was interesting back in January, before things really went pear shaped.

I've played games set in two periods - the Year 2000 using the traditional V1 timeline and also 2030 using a homebrew timeline.

I've been strictly (more or less) v1.0 or v2 timeline, but I'm beginning to wander towards 1990s as a concept.
So, war =1985-1990, or even 1975-1980. Mostly to keep the USSR alive as the antagonists.

Version 1 timeline, but I begin the campaign in the Summer of 1999. Gives the players a year to be immersed into the campaign environment and develop cohesion before the Summer 2000 offensive.

I run a modern Merc2000 style campaign set in modern-day Africa.
