Barbed Wire, Antipersonnel: Concertina wire consisting of strips of metal with razor-like blades, also known as “razor wire.” They are often interlaced with tripwires, flares, grenades and other explosives, and cans with a small amount of metal bits or rocks in them. Issued in 10m rolls with twenty stakes. Weight: 80kg.

Barbed Wire, Concertina: Spring-like coil of barbed wire, with interlaced strands of normal barbed wire, also known as a “combat slinky.” Issued in 10m rolls with twenty stakes. Weight: 80kg.

Barbed Wire, Concertina/Antipersonnel: Essentially a combination of the two wire barbed types above, this version of “razor wire” usually also has a horizontal razor wire strand going in and out through each coil. Normally issued in 50m rolls with one hundred stakes. Weight: 200kg.

Barbed Wire, Straight: Normal lines of heavy wire with knots of barbs. Though used in warfare, they are much more likely to be used on cattle farmers’ fields. Farmers normally put up solid wooden posts to attach their wire. Issued in 25m rolls. Weight: 40kg.

Caltrops: A field expedient area denial system. Approximately 50 caltrops are secured to a length of 550 military cord for best employment. This allows the system to be quickly deployed and/or recovered while denying vehicle/pedestrian movement. The four prongs are approximately two inches tall and will puncture tires or boot. Weight: 0.13kg each, bundle of 50 is 7kg.

Electric Fence Kit: A simple wire fence system that can enclose a square 25m on each side. This can be set with voltage from a generator or from a vehicle power plant, this can deliver an adjustable 1-5 amp shock if contacted. This system connects with the standard computer to create a high tech alarm that analyzes and watches for Motion, IR and Audio. This can also be connected to an automatic sentry that is armed with a M-240G machinegun. Weight: 30kg.

Hesco Bastion: Also known as the Concertainer, HESCO MIL, or Hesco Barrier, this is a modern gabion primarily used for flood control and military fortifications. It is made of a collapsible wire mesh container and a heavy duty fabric liner and used as a temporary to semi-permanent levee or blast wall against small-arms fire and/or explosives. It has seen considerable use during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Assembling the HESCO MIL units entails unfolding it and filling it with sand, soil or gravel, usually using a front end loader. The placement of the barrier is generally very similar to the placement of a sandbag barrier or earth berm except that room must generally be allowed for the equipment used to fill the barrier. The main advantage of HESCO barriers, strongly contributing to their popularity with troops and flood fighters, is the quick and easy setup. Previously, people had to fill sandbags, a slow undertaking, with one worker filling about 20 sandbags per hour. Workers using HESCO barriers, and a front end loader can do ten times the work of those using sandbags.
The HESCO barriers come in a variety of sizes. Most of the barriers can also be stacked, and they are shipped collapsed in compact sets. Example dimensions of typical configurations are 1.4m × 1.1m × 9.8m to 2.1m × 1.5m × 30m. Weight: 60kg; Pallet of 8: 480kg.

Jelly Bearings: These are jellybean sized capsules filled with a low-viscosity fluorocarbon lubricant. Used to temporary block hallways, etc.. The capsules work best on smooth surfaces and should be applied at 20 per square meter for maximum efficiency. Jelly Bearings are used in urban operations wo provide a short-term barrier. Weight: 0.1kg per 50.

Sandbags: These are rectangular bags of burlap or plastic; analogues may be made out of whatever bag material is available. A sandbag has the sole function of soaking up bullets, shrapnel, and blast damage, and are usually deployed in walls composed of several layers of sandbags. Issued in bundles of 20. Weight: 4 kg; Pallet of 200 bundles: 800kg.
