pmulcahy 12-18-2003, 11:19 PM Didn't the Germans try that with the krummlauf attachment in World War 2, without much success?

Paul, my knowledge of WW2 weapons isn't as extensive as it once was, so bear with me if I'm wrong here. Wasn't the Krummlauf a modified version of the Stg 44 with a curved extension on the barrel and some kind of periscope device? If its the weapon that I'm thinking of it wasn't much of a success at all, mainly because it could only be used to shoot round corners, whereas this new attempt looks like it could be used for a straight shoot out as well.

pmulcahy 12-19-2003, 07:09 AM That's correct, Shrike. They tried 30, 60, and 90 degrees; I believe the 60-degree was settled on as the "best" compromise. The Krummlauf was removeable, but only with great difficulty; it wasn't something you wanted to have to do in the heat of battle.
