Default New PC Adventure

This is an adventure that I am working on, feed back please

We the People

Introduction

We were just off the boat hadn’t even seen the clerks at the dockyard for our back pay, when this Colonel scoop us for a “Special Mission” I knew I should rip off that Ranger Tab.

Player Background

The PC’s have just return from Europe and are survivors of US Fifth Division Mechanized, they have opted to remain in the army under MILGOV control and have selected for a dangerous mission

Mission

The PC’s are to track down Colonel O'Hara, a highly decorated and revered super-patriot who has stolen The United States of America Declaration of Independence. Colonel O’Hara claims he's temporarily taken control of the document as a wake-up call to both MILGOV and CIVGOV who have lost sight of its true meaning. Government sources claim, however, that he's asking a ransom of one-half billion dollars for its return. It's up to the PC’s to figure out the good guys from the bad guys and safely reclaim the Declaration of Independence.

Referee’s Background

Introduction

Before the Nuclear Weapons release the US Government launch a plan to protect their most import national documents (Operation Steadfast) among these was the Declaration of Independence. Most of them were stored at National Audiovisual Conservation Center, in Culpeper Virgina. After the bombs fell the Declaration of Independence was to moved overland to Omaha Nebraska to CIVGOV. CIVGOV had plan to use it as proof they are the one true government

The Convoy

The Convoy was just two vehicles an old 1985 US Postal Jeep Dispatcher and an unmarked FBI Dodge Caravan, the idea was not draw as much as attention, the route was designed to stay off the beaten track and travel by night. Two US Marshals and two FBI Agents were only security. A Satellite Phone kept in contact, the last check was made in as they stoped just outside of Jefferson Iowa. Two latter the radio broadcast happen.

Ambush

The Convoy was ambushed as they left Jefferson along Highway 30. The Jeep was spotted in the morning by a forging party and since it bore US Postal Service Markings this made it a perfect target. The convoy never knew what hit them. Using small arms and gasoline bombs they killed all four agents and took weapons and equipment. (The PC will know until they reach the ambush site See Discovery section)

The Radio Broadcast

Two days later the Sons of Liberty broadcast a message on short band radio waves states that Declaration of Independence was in the hands of true patriots and new government would rise up and put an end to civil unrest and expel all traitors.

Sons of Liberty

This is a small band of Militia is lead by former Marine Colonel O'Hara, who founded the group after he’s return form Vietnam. The name is taken from of secret organization of American patriots which originated in the Thirteen Colonies during the American Revolution. They long belive that the end of current US from of government was at an end. Once the war started they started to stockpiling food and ammo, preparing for the dawn of a new country. After Thanksgiving the group started spread the word and recruiting followers. However while they found a few people to join there ranks but most wanted nothing to do with them. Instead of greeting as liberators they chased as bandits by the State Guard and law enforcement units. The unit current strength is about 60 men and women

Camp Dodge

Before the war camp Dodge served as the home to the Iowa Army National Guard, as war drew closed the camp also serve a training and man base for the Iowa State Guard. At present it hosues a cannon of about 900 Soilders from the 34th Infantry Division who oversee food distrubtion and power generator projects in Iowa. The post alos serves a Infantry Replacement Depot and as the State Guard training and riding school.

Iowa State Guard

The Iowa State Guard was started 1993 with around 250 men, as more of the ANG was called up training, membership grew. The State trained and equipped the guard the best it could Bushmaster AR-15 and Ruger Mini-14 were purchased to offset the M14 and M1 Grand that Federal Government provided and state prison work programs provided body armor and uniforms and LBE. Training was done with retired US Army personnel and a few state police officers. To combat the lack of proper patrol vehicles it was decided that horses would used to supplement were possible, it also encourage persons with military type vehicles to join the State Guard, the end results was 950 man guard with about 300 horses and 2 M3 Halftracks, 2 Greyhound Scout Cars, one Sherman Tank, and 22 M-151 Jeeps, 6 CUCV and 20 Civilian/Police Jeeps. At any given time about one quarter of the guard is called up for patrol duties with the 34th Infantry Division or The State Police.

Sounds like an episode of JAG. Still I like the idea of what might have happened to some of our most important documents.

Being rabidly NOT American, that statement is just sooo wrong on sooo many levels!
Mind you, just the first sentance was enough to make my stomach churn - has there EVER been a more crap TV show?

It is JAG episode. "We the People" episode is the first episode of season two. Most of mission background taken from this episode.

I can't answer that one. I pretty much gave up on TV except for the occasional show 7 or 8 years ago. I probably watch less than 3 hours a week, and most of that is a movie.

While JAG is 'Meh', Catherine Bell was enough compensation to make it watchable.
However if you were talking about Seinfeld... there's an utterly crap show with no redeeming features.

Except the fact that tens of millions of people enjoyed it.

I know a few people who would say the same thing about Monty Python or Fawlty Towers. I cannot fathom that, but tastes, especially in humor, can vary wildly.

I agree. It is very much in the feel of the Original GDW projects for the players.

I second that. Nice work, rcaf-777.

Since you asked for feedback, here are a couple thoughts.

1. A money ransom isn't going to mean a whole lot in 2000. Gold might do the trick. Or, something a little more practical like food, ammo, fuel, would be worth more than cash.

2. The escort seems a little small. I get the idea about trying to be inconspicuous but that's a long drive and any "militia" or bandit group along the way would probably see the two-vehicle convoy as a prime target for a shake-down (or worse).

3. A gas bomb could imolate the very thing the baddies are trying to steal. Maybe spike strips and small arms only. The escorts would be totally outgunned.

Other than that, a nice, compact, solid adventure. Well done!

Rae said what I was going to say.

Money eh, so much paper, fuel yeah, arms and ammo sure.

Fire bombs on a parchement/paper product to risky.

And lastly,

I find scarey that you are able to name the title and where in the series the show is. That will cause me some distress

One other thing, the IOWA or Nebraska who whatever the flat state, they all look the same The force didn't have any support weapons, a SAW, a M60A1, or some old M1919 Brownings in 30-06 or converted to .308. Maybe some Mad Max type support vehicles, a tow truck that was armored and turning into a troop transport or combat recovery vehicle.

You could toss in some other groups, a larger marauder group, some Mexicans or Russians made it that far south, the Soux or the Pawnee or the Comanche going off trying to start their own country.

Also, which copy of the Declaration of Independence is it that got captured? There are 3 original copies.

I am still working on the final product, but here is what I got

The ransome is a ruse started by MILGOV to make O'Hara to be anything than as a misplace pariot, while O'Hara belives that it was fate for him to get the Declaration of Independence.

The Declaration of Independence is stored in special container sealed agianist the elements and is fire rated

Fire support was keep to a min as to avoid dectection the covnoy made use of military support where avaible but the told to aviod MILGOV troops, a SAW was in van. Remember they also travel only at night

CIVGOV was the ones that were tranporting the doc so I am making up a team of NPC to try to find it but the I like the idea Comanche

It's a good idea. My only pick is to move the start-point to the Memphis enclave, rather than "just off the boat from Europe." Iowa's a long walk from the East Coast.

As said in one of the episodes of "Supernatural", toilet paper might be a damn fine thing to ask for too. After all, once the apocolypse arrives, who's going to be all that interested in making more of that three ply softness?

Anyone else get the feeling we watch too much TV?

Hey, that's a valid point! I was taught you don't want to use leaves; that's a good way to get intestinal parasites.

Hey now! Don't bad mouth TV! Freind, mother, secret lover Ah Homer Simpson you genius

Leg, I know you are upset right now and you don't mean it. I propose to you sir, can one ever watch ENOUGH TV!

And as for who will be making quilted three ply after the bombs drop! That is a capital idea! We'll make a fortune! Everyone else will be making alcohol fuel, or converting their vehicles to something out of Mad Max. HAH! Little do they know, once they loose refrigeration and modern food preservation ha, they will spend more time in the outhouses than ever! We'll clean up! And we'll also make our own dynasties! Keep this in mind, the fortunes of the California Gold Rush were not the miners, it was the shopkeepers who supplied the miners with essential items. And I will tell you this! Forgetting the TP, or forgeting to waterproof it, was a mistake I only made once!
