Default Cooperative writing

Is anyone interested in cooperative writing/story telling?

I prefer Post Apocalyptic, Alternate present day war, horror, and historical military writing, or anything else that catches my eye. This is not only a means of an entertainment outlet, but it can help us in our writing, and gaming ideas.

It doesn't have to be governed by rules except for maybe having a turn rotation if there are more than two writers. I can host it on RPOL or elsewhere.

It could be a narrative, and doesn't have to be centered with the thought of one writer running one character.

Any takers?

I also have a Vietnam era role playing game campaign in the works, FYI.

I'd probably be interested in something like that, however my biggest issue at the moment is time...at the minute work and other real life commitments are making some fairly fierce demands of me, so I wouldn't really be able to commit to any sort of schedule...

I'm a frustrated author like many Roleplayers. I don't mind having a go, though I usually write sci-fi and comedy. (My series of tales set in a spoof Star Trek universe gradually succumbed to RPGHost's frequent surprise post purges )

I'm in the same boat, then.

Big H, a couple of years ago, there was a T2K PbP campaign by the name of "Stalemate War" over on the RPGNet forums. It was really more of a collaborative story telling excercise than a conventional Twilight 2000 game. It's been defunct for a year but you may want to check out the IC archives for ideas about how to run such an endevour. Players each had a main character, but folks could write for each other's PCs, within limits. It was more of a team created narrative than any other PbP or PBeM I've seen or been involved in. It was pretty fun and produced some pretty darn good writing/story.

Here's a link to the game portal. The IC thread archive is found under the "Operations" header.

http://www.d20.demon.nl/t2k/index.html

Most of it reads like a novel. Some of it's really good. I think a couple of other RPGHost vets were contributers at one time or another- Chalkline and Badbru come to mind. Snakeyes was prepped to join when it went belly up. It's a shame the story never reached a point of closure.

There's also a set of guidelines for collaborative style games on there under "Civil-Military Operations". Could be helpful.

Anyway, I hope it's helpful.

Hmmm, well then perhaps we can start a writing thread or two here in a separate section *COUGH mod mod mod COUGH COUGH*.

I would most enjoy it, as like you have said, I am also a frustrated writer/RPer.

I guess the new forum section should be called...eh...

Writing/Role Playing Section

Unless someone else has something more snazzy? We can start threads there accordingly.

Made a Category named
Writing/Role Playing Section

And a forum named
Post Apoc Creative Writing

http://forum.juhlin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=7

If we want we can add new forums later. Moving posts is also pretty easy if we ever need to split stuff up.

Default So with that

I have a few ideas rattling around in my head as far as what to start writing about.

One idea which I have coined as Slum would be about people trying to survive in a post apoc, sci fi-ish setting along the remnants of streets of some abandoned metropolis.

Another which I have coined as Alone would be about a man, the Hero, the Soldier, the Man, or anything else we can give to have a simple name, would start the story alone in some distant land during the middle of fall. The world around him would be filled with gray skies, cold rain, wind, and the dark woods all around will never seem inviting.

Finally, the last idea I have come with I coined as Heads, or Talks, whereby it would be a political drama type story, pitting heads of made up countries or states, each land having problems of their own, but all trying to come to a solution. However, egos flare up as they usually do, and these countries may very well go to war based on words alone.

Actually I saw Stalemate War is recruiting again for another bash. I looked at it briefly a couple of years back, but the long term players there bunny each other a bit too much for my liking.

I think I know what you mean ("bunny each other" isn't an idiom I'm familiar with). After I signed on, it took me quite a while to feel like I was a part of the established team. When I finally felt like I belonged, as it were, the game abruptly went belly up. Go figure.

Anyway, I'm a glutton for punishment and I want to know how the story ends so I think I'll be signing on again if it actually gets going.

BTW, BigHauser, have you read Cormac MacArthy's "The Road"? Your second story starter sounds a lot like it (the main character of the book is simply called The Man).

I am currently reading it...

HOWEVER...and my grandparents can attest to this. When I was about 14, I wrote this story called "The Soldier," or some such, and it was about him trying to get back to his parent unit after being the last man alive from an ambush. This was 6 years ago, long before The Road...funny how that happens.

On that note...I am going to open up a thread for "Alone."

We shall see where this goes.

It's made more for a fantasy-campaign but I will have to agree that some of their ideas aply here in t2k
