Default Science Kits

In the Lonestar module, we have our first description of science kits, these include an expanded NBC, a geologic sampling field kit, a meteorological field kit, a soil analysis field kit, a survey kit, a tree boring and bio sampling field kit and a water analysis field kit.

Anyone have any ideas for additional field kits?

Weather Observing Kit

Barometer
Thermometer
Handheld Psychrometer (to measure humidity)
Rain Gauge
Handheld Anemometer
UV Light Meter
Data sheets to record measurements

This would be issued to recon and science teams. 4 times each day measurements are taken and then transmitted back to their regional HQ along with radiological measurements, then these are passed on to Prime Base. As more teams are woken up, a more detailed picture of local and regional weather patterns can be recorded. This in turn would be used to predict weather days and possible weeks in advanced by Prime Base.

You already have a psychrometer, so a separate thermometer is redundant and probably should be omitted. If you want to measure temperature, you might as well get the humidity at the same time.

This may be more something for an engineering team than a science team, but:

Structural Integrity Measuring Kit
Multiple ultrasonic sensors for nondestructive metal fatigue and thickness analysis
Strain gauges
Handheld Xray spectrography for composition analysis
Portable computer

Cartography and Mapping kit.

Something like a very upgraded Surveyors kit to re-establish boundaries and mark geographic changes, such as new river canals or eroded shorelines.

GPS, Inertial navigation, and Loran equipped devices backed up with sextant, transit, and tape.

a highly accurate clock and astronomic charts would also be needed. unfortunately the star charts would be likely be useless for navigation given the timeframe unless someone on the team sits down with an astronomy book and calculates 200 years of change.

Just a couple thoughts to add. Given the lapse in time, any gazetteer information will also be way out of date, making the process more difficult and requiring interaction and trade with the locals to get updated.

One way to mitigate updating the geography is to use the Autonav to update the existing maps. You will have to designate a spot you know as true to re-calibrate the Autonav periodically, but the inertial position tracking should let you update maps pretty easily by just driving out to locations.

Laptop can be loaded with a stellar program that can be used to update the charts for the 150+ years.
