Default New member needs modern gaming tips

I'm very glad I ran across these forums. My friends and I have been playing T2K since the mid to late 80's, but life has scattered us across the US. It's nice to see that the game is not dead, and there are people out there still who have a bit of a passion for the game.
SO, how do you fellas game these days? A couple of us continued a campaign a few weeks ago that has been on hold for a number of years. Our appetite for the game has been whetted again, and it was nice to get acquainted with our old characters. How do you guys play across the distance? We are thinking of using Skype for audio, but we're not sure the best way to do mapping where everyone can see what's going on. Any tips and ideas you all have would be great.

With a number of friends we have been using skype to play. It works to some point and that's fun to hear what others are saying. A bit tricky sometimes, nevertheless.

Like Leg posted, these are how I spend my T2k time. I GM one and play in another.

Skype or whatever would never work for me. With players on three continents and real life to contend with scheduling would be next to impossible. Play by post (2 day cycle) has its disadvantages, but its my best (and I guess only choice).

True with skype you need not to be further away than one time zone.

If you use MSN or Yahoo messenger they include voice calling and conference calling... combined with the doodle pad option for quicking drawing maps and outlines.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Time zones are definitely a factor. I belong to a WWII Naval combat flight group and we have to schedule the best we can for training nights and campaign days as well.
We're looking into MS One Note software for game play as well as shared record keeping. I'll post how it works out (or not) for game game play as well as organization.

I have played with a couple guys using the yahoo voice feature as well. There were three plus the GM and it worked pretty well considering two were East Coast, one Pacific NW, 1 Midwest and myself in Cali, alas, life caused us to pack it in when one enlisted, one divorced and one moved, but it was a good game none the less.
