Background Information/Origin:

CW3 Nathaniel Hale Spaight is from Charlotte North Carolina. His family has a long history of service to the American experiment in creating a representative republic that actually goes back to the founding of the United States of America when his ancestor Richard Dobbs Spaight had signed the United States Constitution as one of the three representatives of the state of North Carolina. The Spaight family has felt honor bound to stand for the ideals of the republic, and during the war between the states the Spaight family found itself torn just as badly as the nation they so loved. In the end the Spaight family chose to stand on the side of the supporters of States Rights when Lincoln had ordered the state of North Carolina to muster three regiments to put down the rebellion in the southern states just as the North Carolina Senator Zebulan Vance had done.

CW3 Nathaniel Spaight is the son of Patrick Henry Spaight, a former US Army Corps of Engineers non-commissioned officer whom had fought in Vietnam during the late-60s and early-70s. Nathaniel followed his family’s longstanding tradition of joining the United States Army, but broke ranks when he chose to join the US Army Rangers instead of pursuing a career as a Combat Engineer. Shortly after completing Airborne Training, Nathaniel had qualified for Ranger School in 1990 where he excelled in the high-stress combat situations and conditions he found himself in. Nathaniel had earned his Combat Infantryman’s Badge during combat missions undertaken during Operation Desert Storm. He was captured behind enemy lines during a deep penetration raid when he remained as a rearguard so the rest of his squad to escape, earning the award of the Prisoner of War Medal and the Bronze Star w/’V’ device for valor. Nathaniel's military career had almost ended when he nearly received a medical discharge due to the near fatal injuries he suffered during the infamous ‘Blackhawk Down' incident in Mogadishu in late-1993 that included him being shot several times in the chest, face and right shoulder. After he recovered from his injuries, Nathaniel was allowed to reenlist and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

After four more years in the 75th Infantry Regiment (Ranger) Nathaniel had acquired a private pilot license, a dive training certification certificate, as well as having acquired a second MOS as a US Army Special Operations Diver. With these additional training that he had followed allowed him to become qualified to be accepted into the US Army Special Forces Warrant Officer program. Nathaniel spent almost three years in the US Army Special Forces before he requested transfer back to the 75th Infantry Regiment (Ranger) to work at training personnel as Special Operations Divers.

In the wake of the September 11th Terrorist attacks in 2001 CW3 Nathaniel Hale Spaight took part in the liberation of Afghanistan, and continued to volunteer for several additional tours of duty flushing out al-Qaeda operatives in the mountainous region where he had become a legend among the locals for his ability to ferret out the terrorists and Taliban supporters form their hardened bunkers in the various cave complexes without a loss of life among the squads he would lead.

During his assignment to Afghanistan CW3 Spaight repeatedly volunteered for multiple tours that sent him up into the mountains hunting down al-Qaeda and Taliban loyalists, but when Operation Iraqi Freedom was announced he requested transfer to one of the units that was to take part in the Operation. CW3 Spaight found himself transferred to the 101st Infantry (Air Assault) Division and took part in many of the instrumental battles during the liberation of Iraq. During his actions during the fall of Bagdad, he was awarded a medal by his commanding officer who had witnessed his gallantry and valor during the fighting when he saved the lives of Iraqi children who had been caught in the line of fire of a squad of Iraqi Republican Guard.

Quote(s): "Ah crap, this is gonna hurt."
“Oh yeah, this is gonna hurt in the morning.”
“In the end, all that matters is what you've done.”
“Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker.”
"There's a time when a man has to realize that he needs to take a stand and fight for what he believes in. And there are times when a man realizes that he needs to accept that his hopes and dreams have been lost, that ship has already set sail and that only a fool would attempt to continue with that course. And the truth is that I've always been a fool."

Fuck being a hero. Do you know what you get for being a hero? Nothing! You get shot at. You get a little pat on the back, blah blah blah, attaboy! You get divorced... Your wife can't remember your last name, your kids don't want to talk to you... You get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. Trust me kid, nobody wants to be that guy. I do this because there is nobody else to do it right now. Believe me if there was somebody else to do it, I would let them do it. There's not, so I'm doing it.
