Apparently there was a signifcant robbery of the place in 2012, to the tune of 17-18 million Canadian Dollars...must have been a slow getaway if it was a cold day.

There are three warehouses for the reserve, in Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly, Plessisville, and Saint-Louis-de-Blandford. The last is the one that was hit, for approximately 1,000 tonnes of syrup. Roughly two-thirds of it was recovered by police. At the trial of the ringleader, the syrup was valued at $18.7 million.

I'm pretty sure the reserve system was set up in the early 2000s, so it wouldn't have existed in any of the GDW timelines, but would be around for 2k13.

Maple syrup as currency is always a possibility. Yesterday i help a cousin of mine move and she thanked me by giving me a 40oz of dark maple syrup.

The reserve is there to stabilize the price and supply of maple syrup, and to ensure that we’ll never run out when we need it.

While this all seems pretty ridiculous and hilarious, the secret stash is actually pretty serious business. In fact, ounce-for-ounce, the syrup is worth more than oil!

Canada’s Global Strategic Maple Syrup Reserve is built up by Quebec’s maple producers, who are required to donate a portion of their product to the reserve every year.

As the province produces more than 70% of the whole world’s treacle supply, you can be confident that there’s plenty of it stored in the stash.
