Could someone tell me the correct name for this helmet?

it looks like a CVC (Combat Vehicle Crewman) helmet...

That's an odd place to put the radio handset. What's even odder is that there's one there at all what with comms running through the helmet....

External comms could be down and they adjusted by throwing a manpack in there. We had to do that a couple of times in Iraq.

His boom mike's not hooked up or attached. You can see the wire for it on the side of his helmet. Like so many things in the Army, it's probably just broken.

Manpack can provide a dual net capability the vehicle isn't set up for, also.
