Default Character Generation T2K V1

Questions to the group as a whole.

As you may have seen, I scored T2K, V1 recently. I was running through the character generation.

If I understand correctly, to get a stat such as Fitness, I roll 4xd6 - 4. Per the rules, if the answer is zero, roll again.

Does that mean roll all 4 d6?

Do you follow this formula?

How about re-rolling a d6 that is a 1 or possibly 1 or a 2 ?

This precludes a Player Character having a stat of a 1. At least gives a chance of a decent character.

Dazed and confused on Fayetteville, NC

My $0.02

Mike

Seems a sensible house rule although the lower the stat the more skills a character gets.

James, I have not read far enough yet, still trying to understand character creation. I am up to the point of "Is character an officer?) IF I did this right, then, yes

Once I have finished creating my first character, I am going to post it here in the forum for all to review. (Shades of Dr. Frankenstein??? )

I want to make sure I understand the creation process corectly. So far, first character looks average.

1) Lower stat earn more skills?

2) Lower stat given more skills?

Still dazed and confused.

My $0.02

That's the way I always ran it-- if they add up to 0, roll them all again.

Mike
Lower stats earn a higher Military Experience Base (MEB). An MEB turns into an equivalent number of rolls of d6 to determine time in combat, which becomes a character's COOL rating, and how many military education skill points s/he gets. On average, each d6 should yield a 3.5 roll; so lower stats tend to yield a character with more experience, lower COOL, higher rank, etc. Of course, it's entirely possible for bad luck to yield a character with a high MEB, little time in combat, and low rank.

How much equipment the PCs start with will have a significant impact on the campaign you end up running. Personally I find the amount of equipment PCs start with in all versions of T2k to be far too much and I always limit it now.

That's my personal preference though.

Agreed, but I had always viewed that in light of the final orders in the Kalisz situation - grab whatever you can and go. In that 'classic' situation, I think the amounts are more justified, although personally I would limit or randomize some items.

Good point, though I remember setting up one campaign where the players started somewhere close to Kalisz and I limited their initial gear before we played through "grabbing" gear as they fled the area of the battle and that worked very well.
