Hey all, I'm a bit new to these parts. I recently picked up T2000 1ed and the Twilight Encounters supplement. Absolutely love everything about it, the setting, the feel, everything. Problem is, there are no players in my immediate area (my college campus). I GM/play a handful of live games on the internet, so I'm down with that. Even running a PBP game would be no problem for me.
1. How would the system (especially 1e) work in an online setting?
2. Is anyone willing to give a PBP or other game a chance? I'd love to run Escape from Kalisz and onwards. I think a PBP would be easier on my schedule and for others.
Thanks for the assist,
Mike C.

That's the homepage of a campaign that was run on rpgnet forums that I was involved in. It's been inactive since 2009 but the threads are still also on rpgnet if you can find them. That one used 1st ed rules and timeline/setting.
There are a few games running on rpol.net forums run by some of this forums members so maybe they'll post up about them. None to my knowledge are using 1st ed rules though.
I might be interested in playing if you're offering to GM.

Thanks for the link Badbru, that's some good stuff (and a great character sheet). Luckily, the 1st ed combat is re-written in the Twilight Encounters supplement, making it (IMO) much easier, especially with vehicles. 1st ed. uses a 1d100 for skill rolls also. The live games I play are over on myRPG (http://myrpg.ca/), a handy little site for that sort of thing. I'm currently running a Microlite d20 post-apoc game, but I don't see why T2000 wouldn't work. It'd be a lot of work for me to set up the system with the T2000 rules, but if character sheets are generated before hand, and I can get a digital copy, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Of course, this depends on people's schedules. Which is ALWAYS a factor when dealing with RPGs.
If anyone is up for that, I'd be willing to set the wheels in motion.
EDIT: And having combat like 2nd edition let's me use Paul Mulcahy's amazing site, which is a plus.

I was thinking of looking into some online running but Ive been spending all my gaming time setting up for a FtF game I run on Sundays now. If I ever wind up with sufficient time Ill try to run some PBEm. :D
Btw, welcome aboard M, I think youll find if you need something for running a t2k game, this forum is the place to be.

I would be interested.
Not sure if this is old news for everyone. but RPG Drive thru has tons of rpg stuff in pdf format.

Odie: That's how I got my hands on the T2K and Encounters books. Really helps since I "have" it on my USB and hard drive.
Everyone else: So there's been a couple of you interested in a game. I'm down for some PBP goodness, which brings up everyone's ability to post. I myself am almost always on the computer, so I can post pretty much all the time. ("All the time" being anytime from 6AM-11PM EST). I'm still trying to think about how to explain character creation in 1ed. It's...comprehensive, though I can't judge since I haven't looked at 2 or 2.2ed. I think there's probably some fan-made PDFs or Docs somewhere on the internet that can be shared...
EDIT: And low-and-behold, the internet provides. This should work nicely for chargen needs:

I am willing to be a player but hate the concept of play by post. I do have access to a Team Speak Server or we could use Skype.
For 1st edition I rolled a US Army Special Forces Medic (E-5) and have started a reasonable back story for him.
Medic

I wouldn't mind joining the campaign, if there's room. Haven't created a character for the first edition in about 22 years, though, so support on that would be kind of nice.

Isochron: I think I can assist there with that. How would everyone feel about having the game over on this (http://myrpg.ca/) site? I run another game on there and I'm familiar with how it works. I can set up a basic structure for the game. It also has map support, instant messaging, and dice rollers.
Medic: I'll try to help as much as I can ;)
My last post has a link to a site that'll give you a good character sheet and generation sheet, including the skill list. It requires some math though, I'll warn you right now. Nothing the standard cellphone calculator can't handle :D
If everyone is okay with working with myRPG, I'll set up a game right-quick. Which gives us a scheduling dilemma. When is everyone open? I myself play a game on Monday nights, run a game Wednesday nights, and usually have meetings on Thursday nights. My personal best would be Friday of Saturday/Sunday. I'm also operating on EST.
mcchordsage
03-27-2012, 05:40 AM
I'd be up for an online game, forum based, IRC, MyRPG, OpenRPG, TS, Skype, whatever. My best times are pretty much any weekday evening/most afternoons but Friday is right out. Sunday's also a good day, but it is for everyone else too so I have one game from 1-5 in the afternoon and one's forming for Sunday night.
I have a 1ed Canadian Corporal rolled up and ready to go, if I can find my character sheet, or I can roll up a new one.

03-27-2012, 06:26 AM
Hmmm. I can make Tuesday work for me. How about...say, 4-9PM? Or keep it a little shorter and say 5-9PM? As noted, I'm on EST time, so I don't know how that'll work for everyone.
All players with rolled up characters: Feel free to use them, my one condition is that they have to have a sweet back-story ;)
mcchordsage
03-27-2012, 08:46 AM
I can do that if we don't do Skype or TS, though expect interruptions.
Working on a new character actually because I can't find my old sheet. A Staff Sergeant from the 2-4th Infantry that guarded Pershing missile sites before the war.

Fair enough. I think I'm gonna shoot for using myRPG, and I'll set up the game soon.
One question that arises is this: I also own the RDF sourcebook, which supplies the info for running games in the battlefields of the Middle East. Would people prefer to start in Poland as per the normal rules, or try their luck in the Middle East battlefields?
I also own all the European modules, and the Howling Wilderness (America stuff). I'll see about getting as much in as I can.
mcchordsage
03-27-2012, 10:29 AM
I'd prefer Europe, for my vote. I also have the 'Kidnapped' module for "A Howling Wilderness", which I feel wouldn't be fair for me to play since I'm from the Harpers Ferry area....
M-Type
03-27-2012, 11:09 AM
Ha, noted. Europe does open up a lot more opportunities for...anything. The Middle East brings you back "under the thumb" of US Command. But you don't have to worry about fuel...
Sanjuro
03-27-2012, 04:12 PM
I'd like to play also; my home time zone (UK) might make it difficult, and there is the fact that my work takes me away a lot, not always to places with internet access. V1 is fine with me!

Nope. I just missed your name, sorry. *Fixed*
So I'll shoot for the Tuesday 5PM to 9PM slot. I'll get the game situated over on myRPG. It'll be called Escape from Kalisz, all you have to do is sign up for it (well, after making a myRPG account). I'll get an e-mail and accept you. Would everyone be ready to start next Tuesday (April 3rd)?

Looks like I won't have time for this after all. Had it been a PBeM-game, I could have squeezed in messages, but playing an active live game like the one planned would topple my schedule. Hope you guys have fun, though.
M-Type
03-28-2012, 07:55 AM
Alright, I'm sorry to hear that. Sometime in the future I'll have to set up a PBeM game for ya.
Another Note: Anything on Paul's (http://pmulcahy.100megs3.com/) site for equipment is fair game if it's listed as V or C for the West (The first letter in the A/A set-up). I'll let one Scarce thing slide for each character, but no Rare things.

Also, here's the Service/Specialty for anyone who's rolling up a character and doesn't have the book or whatever. You need to roll 2d6 and get equal or higher the intended #. If you fail it, roll again for a different specialty and take a -2 penalty. Roll again if you fail again at -4, roll again at -6, each time for a different specialty. If you fail the 3rd roll, you are automatically assigned a service job (ones with 2+) of your choice. Ones that have Attribute prerequisites must be 12 or higher.
Service Branch / Specialty Table:
(2+) Aircraft Mechanic ACM 1/2 Cost
(2+) Vehicle Mechanic MEC 1/2 Cost

Sigh, I'm thinking of too much stuff at different times. For all you people who have/or are rolling up your characters, would it be possible to send me a scanned or digital copy of your sheet? Not that I don't trust anyone, but I'd like to see what I'm working with.
And on that note, if you could have characters generated before game, that'll cut-down on set-up time. If not, no harm done, it'll all work out.

My Character http://www.putlocker.com/file/E24A49390921DFC5
I am willing to re-roll if needed.
Backstory;
During one of the final offensives of the war (early summer 2000), the 1st Battalion 10th SFG (Special Forces Group) stationed at Stuttgart, Germany was dropped in at a small airport outside Lodz and was tasked with slowing or stopping supplies and communications of Warsaw Pact forces.
Unknown to the SFG their drop time and location had been compromised to the GRU and KGB. They were overwhelmed at the drop location and took heavy casualties when going for cover in the forest to the south. The cover of the forest at night helped a small handful of the SFG to escape and head west back towards Germany.
During the journey back the six survivors came under fire periodically during some of the breaks in the forest and when crossing some of the roads. At one point they even found themselves on the edge of a large soviet motorized infantry unit and had to back track before being discovered.
The walk from Lodz towards Germany found the group in a few firefights and the loss of all members except one, the medic, just before getting to Kalisz.

Looks good Isochron. Gold coins, eh? I'll have to remember that. I'll definitely work something in about a traitor or the unit that ambushed you.
Isochron
03-28-2012, 12:53 PM
oh wow, I forgot why I even put the gold coins on there. I made this char last summer when I started posting here looking for a Game Master. If you look down the right side outside the equipment list you will see a dollar amount, thats the unspent amount from the standard starting money for equipment. Also in the year 2000 that would make about 3/4 of a pound of Gold.
If someone else rolls US Army Special Forces they can be from the same unit and I can adjust my backstory

Okay, here's my sheet and the back story.
Background:
As part of the security force for the 7th Army's IRBMs, the 2-4 Infantry spend most of the early stages of the war on the move with the rest of the 56th Artillery Command dispersing their Pershing II missiles to their launch sites. After the nuclear exchange, however, the surviving artillerymen were converted to infantry joining the 2-4 Inf to form Task Force Redleg. Len joined the battalion before the war and was a Sergeant by the time the new 'Task Force' moved east into combat.
The artillery, not being trained well for field operations let alone infantry combat, surprisingly did a decent job as front line soldiers managing to at least not be rendered combat ineffective. However, when the hammer of the Soviet counterattack hit the XI Corps most of the remaining redlegs were killed. Len's squad was accompanying a supply convoy when the battalion was hit. He managed to extricate the convoy and head back towards Kalisz where most of the squad dispersed in an attempt to make their way back to Germany.
Task Force Redleg
-2/4th Infantry
-1/9th Field Artillery (Pershing)
-3/9th Field Artillery (Pershing) (Formed from 2nd and 4th battalion survivors)
-55th Support Battalion (+38th Signal battalion)
-193rd Aviation Company

Just some basic housekeeping stuff:
-Keep sending your character sheets if you're doing that! It'll speed up the first session tenfold if we don't have to worry about rolling up and doing math!
-I have all the European modules and then some. They're all valid, but I probably won't play them in the whole order thing (Krakow/Vistula/Warsaw/etc.) All those cities and locations are still around and relevant, and the characters would probably know about them.
-Going Home is also valid, except I'm pushing the time of the task force leaving to soon, not September like it states. The characters may be able to figure this out if they intercept the right messages and radio calls.
-If I think of anything else I'll post it.

Ok, one combat engineer Captain done- details by email asap. I spent most of his cash on tools, spares, equipment, etc- half a ton of it in fact, so I hope there is plenty of vehicle space. So we finally got into the campaign itself tonight, and things moved along. Our gang struck south from Kalisz, figuring on heading to Krakow. They came across an abandoned convoy of Pact vehicles and looted some tires. About a day later, they made a camp in the nearby woods, setting up defenses and (attempting) to hunt. They also found an old hotel/train station being lived in by Polish Marauders, and a group of 10 civilians holed up in a house to the south.
One of the civilian kids was sick with dysentery (hooray for disease charts!), and the groups two medics have set about caring for him. But things are not as solid as they wish, as there is a heavily armed Polish military force camping somewhere to the south.
We left off with the group deciding if they should have the refugees tag along with them the many kilometers to Krakow.

Oh, sounds like just the kind of "fun" I'm having. Have to write about evaluating the treatment and especially from the scrub nurse's point of view. Surprisingly the teacher didn't like when I wrote her, the practical evaluation of the treatment by scrub nurses is impossible since in most cases you see the patient only in the OR. Emergency surgery is the only applicable field and there your evaluation is determined by just one thing: if the patient survives, good; if the patient dies, bad. :D

Technically that constitutes a failure - I've seen thoracic surgeon operate a practically dead patient with a ruptured aorta quite a number of times. Some survive, some don't. The biggest bleed I've ever seen was in one such case - 47 liters (when average blood volume for a human is about 5-6 liters)......and no, the patient didn't make it.

Alright, here's a summary for those of you that want one.
The session started with the group (now with 100% more Nicolai) about how they wanted to assault the marauder camp. They ended up going with a two-prong attack from the north/south, but the plan went awry when Hoffman remembered he can't pick locks for shit. He was lucky enough to find an open window, so he and Jessie entered the building. Jessie managed to stealthily disarm all of the combatants inside, which was great considering the following. Urquhart tried to shoot out the one guard, and managed to blast his leg. The other heard the gunshot and awoke, finding both Hoffman and Jessie pointing their guns at them.
The group got a little information out of them, mostly that they're deserters from the Polish 10th. The group promptly killed them.
The group had gathered all of the refugees from last session in the Deuce, and they proceeded to spend the rest of the 'day' driving.
The session ended with the group camped out in a housing development next to a high school currently inhabited by a small refugee group.
NOTE: They also looted a bunch of stuff of the marauders and found some stuff in the HS.

Yeah. The biggest problem is really just the 5-9 time. When I was at school, I had all the free time I wanted, and I didn't cause any conflict with anyone else.
But now that I'm home, the time conflicts with my family and those around me. The other live games I play are 2-hour sessions from 8-10PM, and that doesn't conflict with anything.
That's why I offered it. We'll figure something out over these next few weeks I'm sure.

Those damned backs, well, your character will get the easy job and just lay around at the "Headquarters" in Krakow. That's basically what you've missed. The group finally got there :D
I'm trying to switch the campaign format to what I call T2k'ventures (Patent Pending), where each week is a stand-alone mission, but it's still part of an over-arching campaign arc.
It makes my GMing job easier, and I can generate them much faster than making rolls to see what the group randomly stumbles upon every 5 minutes. Not that there isn't a place for that either.
EDIT: And get better soon! Best of luck with a speedy recovery.

Well that welcome aboard! Feel free to generate your character. As of right now, I believe we have two Americans, a German, and a Scot who will be AWOL for a bit. The Scot is our mechanic, and one of the Americans has enough med supplies to keep NATO going, so if you so desire, make your character with the skills of the others in mind. The German is a tank commander, if my memory is correct. He's not commanding a lot of tanks these days.

That'll answer your questions. We use Google Maps for our 'gameboard'. We use Teamspeak to chat, and some of the guys use an online dice roller for their rolls, though I use physical dice. They're currently hanging in Krakow, where I'm running what I call 'T2k'ventures', little missions that take up the 2 hour sessions we have. I have it set up as a more traditional RP session, but we'll be getting back to the sandbox stuff in September (unless everyone likes the T2k'ventures set up, which I'd be fine with ;) )
And by 'eastern' we mean EST. Iso can get you hooked up to the T2000 folder we have in Google Docs, where they keep their character and vehicle sheets. I can PM you the details for the Teamspeak server tomorrow.

It went until about late-August. The mix of classes and work pretty much put a cramp on any sort of RPing I intended to do for the time coming.
If I recollect correctly, the group made it to Krakow, and had decided to wait out the winter there. They were running various missions for the different factions (I never introduced RESET) to keep the bread on the table.
It's too bad too, I was going to introduce the RR ("Butchers of Ropczyce") as a threat intent on taking over Krakow, and the PCs were gonna be in the crossfire!

I'd definitely love to get back to it. I love the setting and universe of T2000. I was actually kicking around the idea of a RPOL campaign based on a comic series I just picked up, called The Last Zombie.
It features a military unit moving from their enclave in Cheyenne Mountain to West Virginia to re-initiate contact with another enclave (and the President) since the satellites are damaged (it's been 2 years since the zombie apocalypse began). They begint heir trek, even though they're expecting the worst when they finally get there. They have to deal with fuel and ammo rationing, marauders, disease, food supplies, and the condition of their vehicles. Literally everything plaguing the PCs in a T2k game! Plus zombies! It got my mind thinking....which can be dangerous... ;)

Here's a few pointers:
If you're going to play online I cannot recommend Roll20.net enough. Despite the name it is system-agnostic. It doesn't require a d20 gaming system. At it's core it is a whiteboard system you can have tiles on, and associate characters and characteristics with those tiles. You can also have sound effects, music, etc. There's a "fog of War" effect where you can simply have the map blacked out where characters cannot see (this is great for fantasy gaming where players are moving through a dark dungeon, for example). Players and the GM can draw on the map; it can be a blank "sheet of paper" style map, hexgrid, square-grid, and so on.
With that said it's not perfect: it's audio subsystem is terrible. The best workaround for this is to embed it in Google+ (there's an option at start to do this, and any time you open your campaign you can start it in Google+ Hangouts and invite people in). Google's audio chat system worked flawlessly for my group.
IF you're averse to G+ hangouts (and I can understand that) I recommend using Skype or some other VOIP system rather than Roll20.net's included chat system.
