Default Twilight: 2000 Online

Hey all, I'm a bit new to these parts. I recently picked up T2000 1ed and the Twilight Encounters supplement. Absolutely love everything about it, the setting, the feel, everything. Problem is, there are no players in my immediate area (my college campus). I GM/play a handful of live games on the internet, so I'm down with that. Even running a PBP game would be no problem for me.

1. How would the system (especially 1e) work in an online setting?

2. Is anyone willing to give a PBP or other game a chance? I'd love to run Escape from Kalisz and onwards. I think a PBP would be easier on my schedule and for others.

Thanks for the assist,

Mike C.

www.d20.demon.nl/t2k/

That's the homepage of a campaign that was run on rpgnet forums that I was involved in. It's been inactive since 2009 but the threads are still also on rpgnet if you can find them. That one used 1st ed rules and timeline/setting.

There are a few games running on rpol.net forums run by some of this forums members so maybe they'll post up about them. None to my knowledge are using 1st ed rules though.

I might be interested in playing if you're offering to GM.

Thanks for the link Badbru, that's some good stuff (and a great character sheet). Luckily, the 1st ed combat is re-written in the Twilight Encounters supplement, making it (IMO) much easier, especially with vehicles. 1st ed. uses a 1d100 for skill rolls also. The live games I play are over on myRPG, a handy little site for that sort of thing. I'm currently running a Microlite d20 post-apoc game, but I don't see why T2000 wouldn't work. It'd be a lot of work for me to set up the system with the T2000 rules, but if character sheets are generated before hand, and I can get a digital copy, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Of course, this depends on people's schedules. Which is ALWAYS a factor when dealing with RPGs.

If anyone is up for that, I'd be willing to set the wheels in motion.

EDIT: And having combat like 2nd edition let's me use Paul Mulcahy's amazing site, which is a plus.

I was thinking of looking into some online running but Ive been spending all my gaming time setting up for a FtF game I run on Sundays now. If I ever wind up with sufficient time Ill try to run some PBEm.

Btw, welcome aboard M, I think youll find if you need something for running a t2k game, this forum is the place to be.

Odie: That's how I got my hands on the T2K and Encounters books. Really helps since I "have" it on my USB and hard drive.

Everyone else: So there's been a couple of you interested in a game. I'm down for some PBP goodness, which brings up everyone's ability to post. I myself am almost always on the computer, so I can post pretty much all the time. ("All the time" being anytime from 6AM-11PM EST). I'm still trying to think about how to explain character creation in 1ed. It's...comprehensive, though I can't judge since I haven't looked at 2 or 2.2ed. I think there's probably some fan-made PDFs or Docs somewhere on the internet that can be shared...

EDIT: And low-and-behold, the internet provides. This should work nicely for chargen needs:

I am willing to be a player but hate the concept of play by post. I do have access to a Team Speak Server or we could use Skype.

For 1st edition I rolled a US Army Special Forces Medic (E-5) and have started a reasonable back story for him.

I wouldn't mind joining the campaign, if there's room. Haven't created a character for the first edition in about 22 years, though, so support on that would be kind of nice.

Isochron: I think I can assist there with that. How would everyone feel about having the game over on this site? I run another game on there and I'm familiar with how it works. I can set up a basic structure for the game. It also has map support, instant messaging, and dice rollers.

Medic: I'll try to help as much as I can

My last post has a link to a site that'll give you a good character sheet and generation sheet, including the skill list. It requires some math though, I'll warn you right now. Nothing the standard cellphone calculator can't handle

If everyone is okay with working with myRPG, I'll set up a game right-quick. Which gives us a scheduling dilemma. When is everyone open? I myself play a game on Monday nights, run a game Wednesday nights, and usually have meetings on Thursday nights. My personal best would be Friday of Saturday/Sunday. I'm also operating on EST.

I'd be up for an online game, forum based, IRC, MyRPG, OpenRPG, TS, Skype, whatever. My best times are pretty much any weekday evening/most afternoons but Friday is right out. Sunday's also a good day, but it is for everyone else too so I have one game from 1-5 in the afternoon and one's forming for Sunday night.

I have a 1ed Canadian Corporal rolled up and ready to go, if I can find my character sheet, or I can roll up a new one.

Hmmm. I can make Tuesday work for me. How about...say, 4-9PM? Or keep it a little shorter and say 5-9PM? As noted, I'm on EST time, so I don't know how that'll work for everyone.

All players with rolled up characters: Feel free to use them, my one condition is that they have to have a sweet back-story

I can do that if we don't do Skype or TS, though expect interruptions.

Working on a new character actually because I can't find my old sheet. A Staff Sergeant from the 2-4th Infantry that guarded Pershing missile sites before the war.

Fair enough. I think I'm gonna shoot for using myRPG, and I'll set up the game soon.

One question that arises is this: I also own the RDF sourcebook, which supplies the info for running games in the battlefields of the Middle East. Would people prefer to start in Poland as per the normal rules, or try their luck in the Middle East battlefields?

I also own all the European modules, and the Howling Wilderness (America stuff). I'll see about getting as much in as I can.

I'd prefer Europe, for my vote. I also have the 'Kidnapped' module for "A Howling Wilderness", which I feel wouldn't be fair for me to play since I'm from the Harpers Ferry area....

Ha, noted. Europe does open up a lot more opportunities for...anything. The Middle East brings you back "under the thumb" of US Command. But you don't have to worry about fuel...

I'd like to play also; my home time zone (UK) might make it difficult, and there is the fact that my work takes me away a lot, not always to places with internet access. V1 is fine with me!

Alright, so here's who I have who have listed an interest in playing:

Badbru
Odie
Medic
Sanjuro
Isochron
mcchordsage
Kota1342000?

I think that's as big as I want it to get, party of seven is probably large enough to handle itself.

Isochron and Kota: I'm actually not exactly sure if you were 'in' or not, no problem if you can't do it.

I would love to be in, I prefer starting in Poland over mid east but am flexible on that point.

My schedule is mostly flexible, but the Tuesday 4 or 5 to 9pm EST or Sundays would be great.

I also have most if not all books in PDF format and willing to share them.

Nope. I just missed your name, sorry. *Fixed*

So I'll shoot for the Tuesday 5PM to 9PM slot. I'll get the game situated over on myRPG. It'll be called Escape from Kalisz, all you have to do is sign up for it (well, after making a myRPG account). I'll get an e-mail and accept you. Would everyone be ready to start next Tuesday (April 3rd)?

Looks like I won't have time for this after all. Had it been a PBeM-game, I could have squeezed in messages, but playing an active live game like the one planned would topple my schedule. Hope you guys have fun, though.

Alright, I'm sorry to hear that. Sometime in the future I'll have to set up a PBeM game for ya.

Another Note: Anything on Paul's site for equipment is fair game if it's listed as V or C for the West (The first letter in the A/A set-up). I'll let one Scarce thing slide for each character, but no Rare things.

Also, here's the Service/Specialty for anyone who's rolling up a character and doesn't have the book or whatever. You need to roll 2d6 and get equal or higher the intended #. If you fail it, roll again for a different specialty and take a -2 penalty. Roll again if you fail again at -4, roll again at -6, each time for a different specialty. If you fail the 3rd roll, you are automatically assigned a service job (ones with 2+) of your choice. Ones that have Attribute prerequisites must be 12 or higher.

Service Branch / Specialty Table:

(2+) Aircraft Mechanic ACM 1/2 Cost
(2+) Vehicle Mechanic MEC 1/2 Cost
(2+) Electronics Specialist ELC 1/2 Cost
(5+) Infantryman CRM 20 HW20
(5+) Infantryman/Heavy Weapons HW40
(5+)(CON) Combat Engineer CBE 1/2 Cost
(5+)(INT) Engineer ADM Specialist NWH50 CBE30
(6+)(INT) Combat Medic MED 1/2 Cost
(6+)(STR) Artillery Cannon Crewman IF 1/2 Cost TVD 20

Sigh, I'm thinking of too much stuff at different times. For all you people who have/or are rolling up your characters, would it be possible to send me a scanned or digital copy of your sheet? Not that I don't trust anyone, but I'd like to see what I'm working with.

And on that note, if you could have characters generated before game, that'll cut-down on set-up time. If not, no harm done, it'll all work out.

My Character http://www.putlocker.com/file/E24A49390921DFC5

I am willing to re-roll if needed.

Backstory;
During one of the final offensives of the war (early summer 2000), the 1st Battalion 10th SFG (Special Forces Group) stationed at Stuttgart, Germany was dropped in at a small airport outside Lodz and was tasked with slowing or stopping supplies and communications of Warsaw Pact forces.

Unknown to the SFG their drop time and location had been compromised to the GRU and KGB. They were overwhelmed at the drop location and took heavy casualties when going for cover in the forest to the south. The cover of the forest at night helped a small handful of the SFG to escape and head west back towards Germany.

During the journey back the six survivors came under fire periodically during some of the breaks in the forest and when crossing some of the roads. At one point they even found themselves on the edge of a large soviet motorized infantry unit and had to back track before being discovered.

The walk from Lodz towards Germany found the group in a few firefights and the loss of all members except one, the medic, just before getting to Kalisz.

Looks good Isochron. Gold coins, eh? I'll have to remember that. I'll definitely work something in about a traitor or the unit that ambushed you.

oh wow, I forgot why I even put the gold coins on there. I made this char last summer when I started posting here looking for a Game Master. If you look down the right side outside the equipment list you will see a dollar amount, thats the unspent amount from the standard starting money for equipment. Also in the year 2000 that would make about 3/4 of a pound of Gold.

If someone else rolls US Army Special Forces they can be from the same unit and I can adjust my backstory

Sure thing. I was thinking of taking all the spare money and pooling it together for the party. Allows 'em to buy some weapons for their vehicles or some "squad gear".
