When the specialty munitions are all gone
Specifically, chemical rounds. Would some HE 4.2" rounds be improvised for CW mortars? I'd think they would be...

Keep in mind the war hasnt knocked us back to the 1850's - more like to the 1910-20 level -and as was shown mankind was damn proficient back then at chemical warfare - the rounds won't be binary rounds - they will probably be simple ones similar to 1915-18 ones but still deadly - especially against civilians and troops whose NBC gear is no longer functional and who dont have access to records of how troops dealt with those kinds of weapons in WWI

i doubt it would take long for joe's to remember to piss on a hankie for mustard gas.(though nerve agents will be iffy)

Sarin, as that cult in Japan proved back in 1995, can be improvised. Though extreme caution is recommended....

It doesn't really matter if the technology needed to produce mustard gas was discovered in 1910 or 1810. If it requires massive industrial complexes to achieve than it just can't be done. If it can be achieve in a workman's shop than sure. That's why newly made rpgs and light mortar shells are available (but are somewhat expensive) They can relatively easily be manufactured by people with minimal equipment and infrastructure needed (Though safety standards of the manufacturing process would be quite shocking). As for chemical weapons... Well i'm no expert but creating a chem warfare shell seems a lot more complex than just creating the chem agent. So perhaps a crude chemical weapon device (i.e pressurized canister that has to be hand delivered to the target) can be manufactured but i doubt anything more high-tech will be manufacturable in post ww3 conditions. Actually making chemical weapons can be done on a small scale - a city like Krakow as described in the game could make them. We arent talking thousands of shells here - but enough to definitely make even a very large marauder group think twice about attacking unless they still have at least some rudimentary NBC gear.
If you have someone who has the education and time then you can make some very nasty weapons - if you can make mortar shells and explosives then mustard gas isnt that big a step up. |

I believe canon states that Krakow is producing both antibiotics and the rabies vaccine. To me this means that small scale production of chemical weapons would be possible.
It could be a very small number, but just knowing that Krakow might be more likely to use them (as they can be replaced) would make them a much scarier target. Heck 25 shells of blood agent were supposed to turn the tide in the Ruins of Warsaw module. |
