Lots of creative effort! Good work. I appreciate the effort it takes to devise one’s own timeline.
I like the mention of McDonald’s behind the Iron Curtain. I wonder what factors lead to the weakening of the EU, such that EU members are drawn away. I can understand the French desire to craft an organization over which they would have suzerainty, but the motivations of the other participants might not be as clear to all readers without further explanation. Good attention to Africa. I’d love to see even more work on Africa. Webstral |

My idea for the break-up of the EU into two camps was based on the political and economic manuvering being done by France. Especially using the bad feelings brought about by the 'Black Winter' and laying blame for not getting invovled all at the feet of the United States, United Kingdom and Germany. With the economic benefits coming from the management of african resources gave the Med Alliance alot of economic influence (mainly with 'contractors' going into Africa to build new cities, ect... using those resources to fund these projects allowed their economies to be built up). This also had the benefit of ten years of construction work brining large parts of Africa into the 'modern age' like we've been seeing with all the construction work in the Persian Gulf by the UAE that has put massive amounts of people to work with those HUGE construction projects. That is kind of what i see the Med Alliance doing in Africa...

Bolivarian Alliance (aka Havana Pact)
The Hugo Rafael Chávez FrÃ*as led "Bolivarian Revolution" overthrows of the Venzeuelan government in 1992 with assistance of a group of special forces operatives 'on-loan' from Cuban leader Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz. This establishes extremely close ties between Cuba and Venzeulea. By 1998 it becomes evident that Hugo Chávez has become the ideolotical heir and protogee of the elder Fidel Castro. Because of the revenues from Venzeulea's oil fields the Cuban economy does not collapse, and becomes one of the shining jewel of the Caribbean vacation spots with the opening of casinos and resorts under the ownership and management of the Cuban government. As well as becoming the preimer military training location of all the members of the Havana Pact. The Cuban and Venzeulean military (and by extension the Soviet Red Army) becomes the model for Bolivarian Alliance nations. "Bolivarian Revolution" inspired coup d'état in 1998 that overthrows the Mexican federal government, bringing to power "El Peje" whom used military assistance from Cuba and Venzeulea to secure key locations from those Mexican armed forces units the leaders of "Coalition for the Good of All" didn't trust. It was also these 'advisory' and 'observers' units whom assisted in the purge of the leadership of the Mexican armed forces of those individuals that they feared could become leaders of a 'couner-revolutionary' movement. ![]() "El Peje" shortly after assuming the office as President of Mexico In the years prior to the coup d'état in Mexico City (renamed Tenochtitlan in 2000 by the new government), the United States had spent alot of resources in modernizing the equipment and training of the Mexican Armed Forces in an attempt to counter the growing influence of the "Bolivarian Alliance" in Latin America. Then-President of Mexico Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León had used the American investments in his country to his own ends, only accepting military assistance with large influxes of economic and social assistance (funds primarily used to build infrastructure systems throughout Mexico). Seven Knox-class frigates where sold to the Mexican Navy (Armada de México or SEMAR) in the four years prior to the nearly bloodless coup d'état of 1998 that overthrew the administration of then-president of Mexico Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León that ushered in the socialist government. Many outside observers believed that Zedillo had taken a hand in the coup. The new government in Mexico is under the control of Andrés Manuel López "El Peje" Obrador whom is the head of the "Coalition for the Good of All" (primarily led by the leadership of the Party of the Democratic Revolution & the Institutional Revolutionary Party). "El Peje" is one of the three major leaders of the Movement to Socialism (aka the 'Bolivarian Alliance' or 'Havana Pact') that has unified much of Latin America. (ex-Connole), Knox-class frigate (FF-1056) Almirante Francisco Javier Mina (ex-Whipple), Knox-class frigate (FF-1062) Ignacio Allende (ex-Stein), Knox-class frigate (FF-1065) Mariano Abasolo (ex-Marvin Shields), Knox-class frigate (FF-1066) (ex-Vreeland), Knox-class frigate (FF-1068) (ex-Trippe), Knox-class frigate (FF-1075) Guadalupe Victoria (ex-Pharris), Knox-class frigate (FF-1094) South Africa: Due to the continuation of the Cold War, and the expansion of the threats of Communism (espeically the Zaire becoming a bastion of Communist revolution in Africa) throughout the 1990s Mandela and de Klerk oversee a shared government that dismantles aparthied and creates a new governmental structure that establishes a new system that provides the hope that will expand the educational and social opurtunities of native Africans to those seen by coloreds and whites. Each of the native 'Homelands' are created as indepedent states with representatives inside the legislative branch providing them with a voice in the government. Due to this, South Africa becomes a beacon for the future of southern africa in contrast to Zaire. Due to the end of sanctions South Africa started to establish ties with both NATO and the Med Alliance, but made it clear that they would remain neutral in any conflict between the two, and would only ally with one of the two powers if they became engaged against any of the Soviet Allied african states... This ended up seeing South African forces engaged in combat along side both NATO and Med Alliance forces against soviet-allied forces throughout Africa.

I've been doing some reading, and discovered some of the people who could have been the coup that overthrew Gorbachev and brought with it the 'Black Winter' that kept the communists in power in Eastern Europe... And I was hoping/wondering if anyone else has been able to find hardline communists throughout the Warsaw Pact (and even Yugoslavia and Albania) that would have been part of the conspiracy to pull the 'Black Winter' off...
Yegor Kuzmich Ligachev (born 29 November 1920) is a Russian politician, who was a high-ranking official in the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). Originally a protege of Mikhail Gorbachev, Ligachev became a challenger to his leadership.
