If Vietnam proved anything, it proved that you can put almost anything on a helicopter.
Transports can readily do double duty as gunships with a bit of shop time and the Americans have experimented with Chinook gunship concepts similar to the C130. It's viable, in theory, to mount an artillery piece in the back of a Chinook!
