Very true. In some cases months in combat could even refer to time way back in Vietnam (there's an example in the rule books - Sgt Anderson I think?)

Yup, Anderson was comparing A Shau Valley to the world IIRC.

Your wife can't remember your last name, your kids don't want to talk to you... You get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. Trust me kid, nobody wants to be that guy. I do this because there is nobody else to do it right now. Believe me if there was somebody else to do it, I would let them do it. There's not, so I'm doing it. |

This talk of Rumors remind me of a line from the Flim Longest Day

Pretty OT, but I didn't want to bother creating another thread for something so trivial.
Anywho, does anyone have any sort of name generator? I mean, there's plenty on the internet that I use, but I'm looking for something I can have table-side without lugging my laptop into the picture. American names are easy enough, but I'm looking for something that can do Polish/Russian, War Pac nationalities that the PCs may come across. Has anyone seen anything like this? |

You could try googling "Russian Names" or "Polish Names". It should yield at least something. Another way is to pick names from the news, dissect them and combine the parts. For an example Dimitri Medvejev, Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin dissected and combined would make Boris Vladimirovits Medvejev. (That is, the Russians use their father's name as a middle name, for an example Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.)

I usually use lists of sports personalities as well. For Polish, Russian, and French male names I usually check the wikipedia listings for their national football (or soccer if you prefer) teams then mix up first names and surnames as Medic suggested. For female names I usually try tennis players first.

You could throw in a regional aspect, too, for where the PC was from, or the last place they'd spent time in CONUS post-TDM. If you have a campaign in the works, seems like it would be pretty cool to have the PCs knowing some broad background (with some disinformation thrown in as well) about Texas, NYC, New England and such. Could occasionally toss in some new info when PCs run into other Americans still in Europe so that by the time they're back CONUS and, say, going into Last Submarine or Armies of the Night the general backstory has been something they've known about for a long time (+ some errors).

On sports teams, there's lots of Russians, Czechs and Slovaks in hockey. In a Russian-themed D&D game I was running, one of my hockey-fan players used the names of Russian-born players on the Blue Jackets for her bodyguards.
