The city is independent, organized and nominally allied with Eureka against the NDP.
The city has a governing council and a battle hardened militia with some heavy weapons. The environs are prone to NDP patrols and a continuing low-level war steadily takes it toll on the city. |

city of Avenal is only a collection of fortified compounds nominally allied against marauders. They cooperate but do not have a common leader. The compounds all respect NDP authority - anything less than obedience will mean attacks by the NDP. There is little trade surplus but occasionally a good harvest means oats, corn and alcohol can be had.

Visalia is an independent city of more than 3000 inhabitants all counted.
The city does a brisk trade in services and goods and have trade surplus in farm produce and stock. Visalia is well known for its medical services and cottage industries. Its militia was well armed and well supplied up until recently when renewed fighting with the evicted NDP resumed. It is believed that personal animosity from NDP chairman Haussmanntowards visitors in the town were the casus belli. Also a third party has begun encroaching the valuable lands around the city from the mountains, claiming to serve the "King of the mountains". The cites status is precarious and it is expected to either submit to its adversaries as it undergoes a loose siege from the NDP in the west and "King" in the east. |

The NDP controls the area and is rumored to have extensive underground bunkers and facilities in keeping with their motto : bread - bullets - bunkers for all.
The area is closed and al approaches are heavily mined and guarded. Anyone caught without authorization is apprehended for "processing" by the numerous NDP combat patrols. A few successful escapes have occurred from the area, some bringing news of terrible oppression and total control of the populace in the maze of bunkers and cellars. The NDP has gradually ben beaten back and evicted from most of their former strongholds and they assert control over the areas within their reach only nominally due to the ever increasing lack of resources. But the Atascadero - Shandon area is the heartland where the corn fields still burgeon with harvest, the herds graze peacefully tended by happy farmers and the NDP troops parade smartly in great numbers every day. Nobody knows how much Haussmann has stockpiled in the main bunker nicknamed "the Hive". Scouts regularly report of aviation assets being used from the area, helicopters as well as CAS aircraft. |

The city of Redding, CA.
The town is divided between the Norfs and the Soufs each group keeping to their side of the river and each group maintaining a checkpoint at Sundial bridge. The Norfs: They are a hardy lot trying to get by and the taxing of travelers is a welcome supplement. The Norfs have some farming, lumber and livestock but there dis little trade surplus. The conflict with the Soufs run deep due to the Soufs unjustly taking valuable trade form the southern routes. So potshots are occasionally discharged from the North bank at Soufs. The Soufs: They are hardworking and get by on little. The taxing of travelers is valuable to them in addition to their limited hunting, farming and livestock. There is seldom a trade surplus here but traders to come and services and basic goods can be had. The Norfs are jealous in the Soufs opinion and sometimes a random mortar round is necessary to keep them from getting to rowdy. |

The bridge at Whiskeytown is a natural point for traders to meet. Not only due to the checkpoint stopping all and taxing them, but several small stalls and makeshift houses sell several of the services you would think to find in a town name Whiskeytown. Raw materials and more or less willing coworkers are transported up from the south.
The settlement has no choice but to be proud of its strong army - a squad of various deserters and the Pain tek T34/85 -2000 they rode in on. |

Fresno was hit by a dirty nuclear device fired by PainGov air force in 2016 to end the Holnist occupation and subsequently Holnist chemical weapons stockpiles polluted the city.
The area is considered dangerous to travel without NBC protection and few venture in to the city. Rumours have it that surviving Holnists and their death camp captives still live in the city as primitives, fighting brutal battles over hunting grounds and uncontaminated water. |
