The bridge at Whiskeytown is a natural point for traders to meet. Not only due to the checkpoint stopping all and taxing them, but several small stalls and makeshift houses sell several of the services you would think to find in a town name Whiskeytown. Raw materials and more or less willing coworkers are transported up from the south.

The settlement has no choice but to be proud of its strong army - a squad of various deserters and the Pain tek T34/85 -2000 they rode in on.

Fresno was hit by a dirty nuclear device fired by PainGov air force in 2016 to end the Holnist occupation and subsequently Holnist chemical weapons stockpiles polluted the city.

The area is considered dangerous to travel without NBC protection and few venture in to the city.

Rumours have it that surviving Holnists and their death camp captives still live in the city as primitives, fighting brutal battles over hunting grounds and uncontaminated water.

The sea between Ft. Bragg and Napa has seen heavy fighting over the last year. NDP troops have clashed with a ragged alliance of local militias and forces from Orland, Eureka, Visalia and LA.

The battles are mostly fought over the control of the roads with the objective to isolate NDP forces to the Atascadero area. There are few if any noncombatants in the area as both sides have scant consideration for civilians in the bitter struggle. Spies are suspected to be everywhere and units roaming the area shot first and ask later in most cases.

The fighting seems to have died down somewhat recently and some sort of stalemate seem sot have set in, but the characteristic rolling battles may ensue at any time.

Bothe the NDP and the various militias have several battalion sized units in the area.

The area is controlled by the Mexico Norte Province, a confederalist Mexican faction with considerable resources and several northern Mexican states under its control - to some extent.

PainGov attacked SD using nuclear weapons during the 2.nd American civil war and thereby destroying much of the amassed forces there. The setback was critical for the Norte faction, and recovery is still underway. The MexNorte have managed to penetrate as far as Palm Springs where outposts warily scout for patrols from the LA area where the various feared Painist factions and their enemies the gangs are fighting a vicious civil war over turf and resources.

Hemmed in by the mountains to the east the MexNorte seemingly is unwilling to commit to the urbanwafare nightmare of 2020 LA.
