As a followup to my post about Roll20.net.
Yesterday our group started a 1e back to the beginning game of AD&D - Keep on the Borderland. Roll20.net is great for mapping and movement but we have been using Google+ Hangout for communicating and it can interface directly with your Roll20.net game so you don't need a separate screen up for both. Roll20.net has built in character sheets for most RPG and you can quickly pre-programmed macros on the screen for quick rolling of common dice like d20 for hitting.
