Totally OT—GI Bill
The good news about the Post 9-11 GI Bill is that there’s a ton of money involved—two to three times the amount I would have received for the Montgomery GI Bill that I haven’t used yet. The bad news is that a) everybody is trying to get their money now and b) the paperwork to get it is only slightly less daunting than a patrol in the Sunni Triangle. Every time I talk to someone about getting my money, there’s another requirement that no one else told me about. The timetable for getting my money keeps getting pushed further and further back, which is not desirable given that full-time students and child care givers have few opportunities for making money.
Words to the wise for my American compatriots out there: if you want to go back to school and use your Post 9-11 benefits, get the ball rolling as early as humanly possible. Months in advance is not unreasonable. I’ll get my money eventually, but it may take well into next semester to make it happen. Webstral |

Alot of hurdles involved with mine when I used it back in 02 and 03. Allowed for some classes but not others, and then that changing when you were in the middle so the benefit amount is different <usualy less> later. ARGH!!!
Have I said how much I HATE the V.A. lately? I really really really hate those MF'ers.

I started working with VA in May... no problem getting my certificate of eligibility (got that mid-August), just needed to send them an electronic copy of my last DD214... now as far as getting my 1st check... had to involve my congressman... but I got it mid October... seems they're taking about 9 weeks to process claims...
