Default Hello, new member here.

Hello, just wanted to introduce myself real quick as the FNG here. I just recently joined this forum after getting a bunch of T2k materials and wouldn't mind playing a few sessions, however that might be remote as I live way out in the boondocks...Moyock, NC to be precise. As I write this, Hurricane Irene has been battering us fairly hard, but no worries as we still have power atm, and we are pretty well stashed with supplies.

I am a former Air Force (or Chair Force, Air Farce, etc. whichever you prefer) vet who's done defense contractor work and now studying toward a Biomedical Technology degree. With that said, just wanted to say hello to everyone.

Hi, welcome to the group.

Please tell me you aren't planning a TW2000 session at the minute - with Irene on the way ot might be a bit close to LARP! but seriously I hope everything goes well for you there.

Feel free to post we are a friendly group - I don't even bite if you find mistakes in anything I write :-)

Hope to see you post regularly.

Jason Wieser (we chat a lot on occasion) who lives up in the DC area was online this morning. He said everything was okay but he's been offline since. Last I heard several areas of DC are without power now. Still amazed we have power actually, dunno how long it will last though. We have an emergency generator with extra fuel on standby.

As for wanting to do a roleplaying session in the middle of a hurricane...well, that ain't half bad an idea if it's close to LARP, hahah. Hey, just throw in a few more disasters, some random looting, shooting and BINGO!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone, much appreciated.

We just got power back about half an hour ago. So far it seems we lucked out down here in Moyock, there are trees and branches down here and there, but no serious damage anywhere as far as we can tell, the fact that we've had a drought worked out well for us ironically, as the ground really soaked up a lot of the rain.

Kota, my MOS was F-15/F-111 Avionics in the Air Force. F-111's were being phased out when I went in around '96, so I was pretty much F-15's. I only worked on the C and D models though, never go to work on the E models unfortunately as they had all the updated electronics with spiffy new features. Still a good bird though, F-15's IMHO is still one of the best aircraft they've had though the maintenance all-around can be a bitch sometimes...

Thanks Schone, I asked because I had been working on some adventures involving the Air Force rebuilding air power with anything at hand. The first ideas Ive been working on involve using ultralight aircraft.

That's actually not a bad idea. Microlights have simple motors and can run on ethanol, methane, etc. with proper rigging. You may also want to consider dirigibles as well. "Airlords of the Ozarks" had a campaign based around that which had some useful info and tips. Assuming you can get secure supplies of either hydrogen (which unfortunately is rather flammable) or helium (which may be a bit more difficult since helium is only found in certain areas of the world, one of them Texas!) dirigibles would be doable.

Aerostats would be another possibility, again assuming if you can secure hydrogen, helium or some lighter than air gas. Those are just blimps with tethers attached that can be raised to a certain height, than brought down again. If you attach cameras to them they can be great for providing long distance surveillance (which is what SOME of the aerostats were used for, others were a bit hush hush). Only problem of course, it's just that one tether that's usually holding the balloon (though the ones I worked on as part of an aerostat program for one company were pretty damn tough, they're constructed from Kevlar) and they are pretty susceptible to wind and weather conditions. Of course, I actually raised the idea, or possibility of "what if we mounted a remote control weapons rack to one of the aerostats with an autocannon or some large caliber weapon attached along with gyrostabilizer and all the necessary cameras and aiming devices?" I guess that's why they started looking at me a bit funny.

Hydrogen is very easy to make via electrolysis, but energy-intensive to make in volume. Still, if you've got the time, it's doable with early 1900's tech.

There's a long airships thread from a couple of years back that might tickle your fancy.
