Ot-lol
I just found that today on a french forum. This flying deck was made at the french base of Landivisau to keep training for the deck personnel when the Charles de Gaulle is in dry dock (half of the year).
Our second aircraft carrier is a cheap one. |

heh heh heh. I hope they actually don't try taking off using the "catapults" on their new aircraft carrier.

The Chinese went one further. They removed the entire flight deck of one of the Russian carriers they bought so they could train their pilots. Not that they are building a huge navy with all aspects or anything.

Turning it into the wind is a bit of a bother though. It does, however, have very little sea movement compared to other carriers making landing somewhat easier. Something other nations could incorporate into their carriers.
I think the French have made a brilliant leap here, consider how many installation crew they have done without. Also, if the carrier is lost, the crew can simply walk away without all that unpleasant drowning/boiled alive stuff going on! Jokes aside, I like how this is a classic bit of simple solution over a complex juggling of rosters and timetables. |

I just hope they are not being tracked by a landsubmarine

So, how does that affect their Ports O'Call, and the time honored Naval tradition of, "A Gril in Every Port."
