Default RDF Sourcebook

Hello again,

I should introduce myself. I'm 40 years old. I've never served but did work in my 20s for the Department of the Air Force as a historian. My education was largely focused on military history.

As mentioned in other posts, Twilight:2000 was a hugely popular game for my friends and I. We didn't care so much for the post-apocalyptic stuff but for the chance to role play modern military characters.

The RDF Sourcebook was my first purchase and I recently got it in PDF and read through it again. It's a great effort but all these years later I have to laugh at the numerous errors in naming units, particularly squadrons.

I realize the 1980s were a pre-Internet era but it's hard to fathom how GDW--who understood the US Army TO&E in the 1980s--didn't understand that the USN/USMC name squadrons VF/VMFA not stuff like "15th Fighter Squadron." The French squadrons are even more mislabeled.

Still, it was an enjoyable read then and now. And Colonel Richilieu was still the hottest female NPC ever introduced in the game

I'm sure everyone here would genuinely appreciate any assistance you can give to properly naming the units involved.

I've often wondered if she's a descendant of Cardinal Richelieu. They have a lot in common.

Welllll...maybe not too had to understand. I think everyone who has made some order of battle for the game has made some kind of mistake like that.

...and I think Allison Sanders from Allegeny Uprising and Kathy Simeto from Med Cruise are good runners up.

The GDW crew seemed to be fond of borrowing NPC names from history. Most of the Polish generals and colonels match names to WW2 commanders.
