Default Question about 2300AD

hey, a question about 2300AD.

I was at the local game store and checked out the Mongoose 2300AD.

I was wondering about the system for the original 2300AD by GDW. Is it also based off Traveler (like T2k 2.2) or is it a separate character generation and combat system (like T2k 1.0)?

thanks

It's different from original Traveller. The system is pretty nice (though it has its faults, as every system does).

My only issue with the original 2300AD was the space combat system. It was...and there is no other word for it...boring. Sure, it's realistic, whereby space combat is more like modern submarine combat, but our group found it incredibly tedious.

In the end, we handwaved space combat and didn't include it much.

Other than space combat, however, it's a great system, although I've "hacked" it twice: once into Traveller: The New Era rules (essentially Twilight: 2000 v2.2), and I'm currently converting it into the Reflex system (from Twilight: 2013)

Does the link to the materials still work?
I really need the knitty and gritty to the work.

I totally understand how you feel about the space combat system. It can be a bit tedious, but I do find it interesting that the system is designed to be more realistic. I think it's a good idea to include realism in any system, but I understand why it might not be as engaging for some people.
