The Spanish Air Froce operates 2 P-3A, 5 P-3B and 4 P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft (the A/Bs are to be converted into Cs in 193-95). 12 CASA C-212 Aerocars are operated as search-and-rescue ac. Air Force F/A-18 Hornets can be used in maritime strike role with Harpoon ASMs. Additional 3 Fokker F-27 SAR ac and 10 AS.332F Puma SAR helos.

Last two units delayed due to payment disputes with shipyard, slatted fro delivery 1994-96. Similar to US version except for CIWS, radar and EW suite. Hangers can support 2 SH-60, although only one carried normally.

Evolved version of the Portuguese Navy’s Joao Coutinho-class, built by the same yard. Scheduled to have one Meroka CIWS in place of one 40mm. Can accommodate 30 troops. Two sold to Egypt and one to Morocco.
