Default Full auto - PCs

Most version of the rules have single shots being more accurate than burst fire. Most PCs i know, tend to use say 5 single shots, rather than bursts, because its more accurate (a smaller secondary reason might be to conserve ammo).

Once you go to full auto type conditions, accuracy drops under most systems.

As a player or GM, whats been your experience with players going full auto? Does it happen often or only a small amount of the time?

I guess PCs on support weapons, GPMG's for example (M60 or M2HB), are more likely to lay down full auto fire. So my question more applies to players that have M-16's, AKs, Uzis, etc.

Of course one purpose of going full auto is to keep the enemies head down while your forces get closer. But most of my players used single shots or a maximum of two burst before its started to waste bullets.

In the games I have played, there was only one time that a character used full auto. Until the crusty old Master Sgt. slapped his gun away from any target. "YOU DUMB M****R F****R!!! We are cut off from our supply line!! Do you think bullets grow on trees???? If you fire more than one round at a target at a time, I'll shoot YOU!!!! Last time it happened...Love Crusty Old Master Sgts!!!

Look up the rules in Special Operations for controlled bursts.

My players have not been shy about using full-auto. They seem to love to put as much lead down field as possible. Remember in 2.2 half of all full auto misses are saved for anyone that moves through the 'danger zone'. Can be pretty effective.

Very realistically most of the time my PCs have used automatic fire to interfere with the movement or actions of the enemy e.g. short bursts down a street even if nobody is there to reduce movement down it. I have to admit the mechanism is one of the best treatments of full auto fire I have come across.

My Pcs tend to be carrying a GPMG or SAW so they do use Full Auto a lot. That being said the groups they are in tend to carry heavy with at least 1 in 4 carrying a MG and Grenade Launchers are Popular additions to Assault Rifles. With the groups I've played with they tend to look and act like a TW2K version of a SOG Heavy Team.

Ditto-- my players tend to use full-auto mostly for area-denial. The rules don't explicitly cover suppression effects, but it's always something to consider. The 3-round-aimed-burst rule in SO is one of my favorites, but I felt it was too confusing to introduce to my current groups.

This past weekend, I got to run a 1918/Russian Civil War scenario that I've been itching to run forever. There were only two auto-fire weapons there, and both times, they were used for this kind of effect.
