I do not think I have seen this thought before. If it is here on the forum, my apologies.

The other day, I was perusing some on line sites that concern themselves with the purchase of freeze dried food. I have been considering this for some time. Until a thought hit..... (Oh, no I am thinking again )

I was thinking of purchasing a six month supply. Then, as I looked at the number of boxes this entailed, how the hell do I keep my nosy neighbors from learning Mike has a s*** load of food. Or for that matter, the delivery truck driver. He will remember that THIS house had a large delivery from (name your favorite food company). And if SHTF, here they come, looking for a handout. Or the whole pile....

The people in my neighborhood are good, honest, hardworking souls. We look out for each other when some one is not home. BUT, my interpretation of these folks is they are grasshoppers, not ants. I do not want them to know about "the stash".

So far, I have taken to buying in small quantities. Who is going to remember that Mike brought in six bags of groceries vs. his normal four? Expensive, maybe, but no one knows just what is in those bags.

I am looking forward to your thoughts and comments on this issue

My $0.02

Mike

Paranoia is the first sign of mental stability.

Yes I got a big load of stuff because I am going to be sending it to a friend overseas...

Or donating it to a charity...

Same applies for large-quantity ammo purchases...

I would get a PO Box and a storage unit for one month. Rent a truck the day it is delivered to pick it up and move to the storage unit. Then move 5% of the stuff daily to your home perhaps concealing it in well worn boxes. Oh and take the empty boxes out the same way they came in. For a cover story you can say that an Aunt passed away and you have been looking through the boxes of her "junk" before giving it to Goodwill.

OpSec is my middle name. My wife doesn't even know what I have stashed. I go to the grocery store, grab a couple extra cans of chicken noodle soup or whatever, and before I bring the groceries in the house, I seperate out the "long term storage" items and put them in a cooler in the garage. Ditto ammo, a box or two here and there, into the ammo can when I get home.

Not only OpSec, but it spreads the price over a period of time. Plus variety factor, I've noticed some of those freeze dried foods have a skimpy menu. How many days in a row do you want to eat beef stew?

As for food, I have gone about it two ways, first when I was still in the military and they gave us our MRE's for the field I never ate them, brought other stuff with me and keep the MRE's for later, They are now all stored in with my stuff, the second way that I do it is have it sent to work where I order Emergency supplies for, so having some extra show up noone know what is for work and what is for me. I know of some others who run food dilvery type jobs out of there house and make it known to there nebiors that is what they do. On the ammo issue, just joing a shooting sport and then have it delivered by the truck load to your house, talk with the dilvery guy about your sport, he will know that you have a gun or two but as you are using it up for your sport will most likly not think that you have lots on hand.
